Away from the "can you just...." war cry of

Its our monthly Old Farts Reunion...........over coffee.

So going to to a rear Spring replacement on the 2007 4 Seater as the replacement pair have sagged after only 3 years and 8k...

Couple of questions;

Is Denso tape worthwhile?

If you are replacing springs is it best to do a side at a time or take both old ones off then fit the new ones?

Anyone got a fitting tool I could kindly borrow or advise how to make one?

I put Denso tape around mine when I swapped from six to four leaf springs as part of my Plus 8 rebuild. I sprayed the new springs with motorcycle chain lubricant first. I've only done about 200 miles since, but it is very quiet and non- creaky and should stay that way. You are very welcome to my "tool" which is two strips of mild steel bolted loosely together and used in conjunction with a crowbar I already had. If you mail me directly, I can send you a photo. Similarly, I have some Denso tape left which you can have if we can work out an economic way of getting it to you. I can't see me using it again in a hurry - very sticky stuff.

I just used a length of 2x4 and a big g-clamp to refit mine ..... they don't need a massive amount of grunt to line the bolts up.

Couple more questions;

Do you remove the axle u bolts before or after you release the spring from the front shackle?

Should you always replace the u bolts, the car had new springs 3 years ago, where they put new shackles on but kept the original u bolts. It’s a 2007 car with 40k, my thinking is if they are ok just keep them?

In terms of fitting the new spring at rear, is this straightforward or do you have to apply pressure to the spring get it into place? Is that where the string comes in handy?

I would replace the U bolts.

I would also fit new U Bolts and nuts. Not expensive and it's suggested that it's not good practice to re-use nylocs. The only issue I had was that they were open a fraction too wide at the bottom to fit neatly into the bottom U Bolt plate. Ended up closing the gap slightly with a couple of cable ties, and then cutting them off once the U bolt was in position.

I removed both spring end bolts before removing U Bolts.

Had no issues fitting the spring at rear - no pressure needed (or string). Access is very good with a 4 seater.but a little fiddly to get the washers in the correct place.

Was thinking for fitting new leaf springs what is the best option in terms of jacking up the car? Normally one would put it on axle stands on the axle you couldn’t do that if your replacing the springs?

Support it under rear crossmember?
