Due to the fact that my "six Pack " has relaxed somewhat over the years and I rather like my Motolita steering wheel has anyone ever tried to fit a quick release unit to a Plus 8 . I can weild a spanner but I'm not a guru !!

With the right boss I guess it is doable. On my older short door cars I have an off centre motolita wheel that gave more room in the lower regions

My 2002Plus8 came with a removable steering wheel. A previous owner needed it due gastronomic expansion. I don’t have details of make etc though, other than it has a Moto Lita wheel. It has a lock to prevent accidental removal. Looking at the service history it might have been retro fitted by Richard Thorne as he did some servicing and other mods.
I have swopped the wooden wheel for a leather one. Better feel as the wooden one was the thinner type.
One thing to note is that the boss system matches with the light stalk so connections are ok. The wheel comes off leaving the rear boss in place on the steering column so no effect on the electrics that are in therear part. The horn push can be temperamental.

Looked into this some years ago, Steve (Simmonds) had t yet sorted his out but said he would send me a prototype to check and feedback. Nothing arrived, I chased at regular intervals for 2 years and then gave up. A friend visited to buy one of his sewing machines and he said he was just about to post out.... nothing came though.

Them Steve launched his removable wheel and mighty impressive it was however it was for earlier cars with the horn on the stalk, I phoned Steve and spoke with him and he said the central horn push was a big issue and that he was working on a type for later cars and that’s the last I heard of it.

So in conclusion it seems early type (horn on stalk) is/was available and later types (horn in centre of steering wheel) may be available now. Only way to know for sure is ring Steve.

Cain at Wolf Performance also had a solution but again there were a few horn push issues he was ironing out.

BR
Colin (I could certainly do with one and if sensible money would buy one but not when close to £1,000 was quoted!!!.... Not from Cain I hasten to add)

I wanted to fit a removable s/wheel to a non-morgan while minimising the extra column length and retaining horn function and found the answer here www.snapoff.com/racing
Scroll down to the bottom. You don’t have to use yellow pull knobs, that’s just a racing requirement. They were very easy to deal with, quality superb and delivery from Sweden took 4 days. No connection other than happy customer.

Seems to be a common issue with steering wheel suppliers. I've been waiting for over a year for a re-launch of this SuperSpoke removable wheel with horn push. It's been promised as imminent on the many occasions I've enquired.

Just realised Steve Simmons heads this company. They seem to be busy making hoods as well, as advertised in Miscellany.

You could always fit a steering wheel quick release as fitted to the current M3W by Morgan. https://www.mtwc.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/QR-Steering-Wheel-Problems.pdf. Probably not a good idea.....

Maybe this helps… This brand - NRG Innovations http://www.getnrg.com/ - manufactures many very good quality quick releases.

I'm still thinking about this brand to change the poor quality Traven Technology quick release of my 3 Wheeler....

Their simplest Gen 2.0 looks excellent and you have plenty of choices for the color http://www.getnrg.com/index.php?route=product/category&path=69_18

And they have plenty of hubs, again with different sizes, patterns and colors. But the key one (in my opinion) is their SRK-WDH http://www.getnrg.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=172&product_id=1854 because it fits direct into a standard steering column with Woodward splines, thightened with a couple of easy allen screws and ready to go. No welding nor other complex stuff.

I don't know if the combo of the Gen 2.0 with this SRK-WDH would work with your Morgan and the horn in the center, but it's a good option to investigate.

I have the same wheel for my M3W, but with a centre nut replacing the horn push, and was very pleased with the Superspoke service and product. It seems to have moved into Morgan hoods and QR mechanisms for Jags, but Steve Simmonds might make up a wheel and hub if you ask him nicely.
