Hi Moderators!

Just curious chaps... I 'posted' an advertisement yesterday and got the message saying along the lines that 'all advertisements must be approved by the moderators'...

How does this process work and how long does this approval process take please?... my carefully prepared 'advertisement' with lots of photos' has just disappeared!

Cheers,

Peter.

A regularly asked question Pete.
Your advert hasn't "disappeared", but unless you're a member who donates financially to the site your ad will not appear until it's approved.
All the moderators are pretty busy, Simon in particular with business and family issues so it may take a few days.
If you read the terms of the For Sale section I think it says anyone with less than 30 posts would have FS/Wanted ads approved, but this seems to have changed when the site was migrated to new hosts. The reason for the 30 post limit was to stop someone just joining in order to post adverts, be they genuine or bogus.

I tried to post a wanted ad in the "For Sale" forum and was told the same thing regarding approval.
That was on 06/05/2020 and again on 14/05/2020 with no advert appearing yet.
I have been a member on here for years and had quite a few posts in the past so have not joined just to place an advert.

Ah, Graham, OK. I did not know about this.

I have now made a PayPal donation to TM!

Cheers,

Pete.

When I first joined I was trying to clear out my garage, well to some degree, I had a Morgan/Triumph TR engine with the appropriate ME prefix to the engine numbers and a load of other stuff, so cobbled an add together lest there be those in need of such "stuff".... the add never appeared and the "stuff" got junked, which seemed a pity.

From the other side of the coin, I understand that some folk with less than honest ideals could/would look to take advantage of the site for nefarious purposes... Thanks for providing an explanation Graham.. thumbs

II was an Admin/Moderator on LRUK for years, and although it had 15 times the membership of TM, we had a large pool of admin/moderators who had specific roles, but were also able to jump in and support in other areas. That way, the job wasn't too onerous, and the membership benefitted as a result.

May be worth adding a couple of new moderators to TM who can help wth the day to day running?

Good idea!

Maybe having one person 'in charge' of vetting/approving 'For Sale' advertisements...

We are not all here to take advantage...

Personally, I added the sale of my car here (well, at least I have tried!) because ideally I would like my 4/4 80th Anniversary Edition to find a new home to a Morgan Enthusiast...

Anyway!

Cheers,

Peter

I happened to mention what has been discussed about the For Sale section - a while ago - and got several replies saying that Simon is busy and will "get around to it".

I too have something to sell and over a week ago - listed a new thread, to that effect. I have subsequently - contact Simon - through Forum Help and sent him an email - with no reply and no advert uploaded?

I will say - if we are going to have a For Sale section - it does need to work? Everything else on TM is great - however, the For Sale section needs to be re-thought through as people come onto this site looking for Morgans For Sale etc. and it should therefore be easy to use?

Does Simon (as TBM suggests) need some "help"?

This is not in anyway a witch hunt I am agreeing with others via my own two experiences.

Mark

I think it's entirely reasonable that the For Sale section should only be available to those who have made a contribution to TalkMorgan - after all, the internet is not exactly short of places from which one can sell a car.

Sure, people could well come looking at TalkMorgan if they are searching for a car to buy, but the idea that they wouldn't also cast an eye over Car and Classic is pretty far-fetched I feel. One might argue that one would prefer to sell to a fellow Talk Morganeer, in which case bunging Simon a few quid for the privilege is hardly an onerous burden.

It's beyond me why people wouldn't want to contribute to a great "add free" forum irony mode off, most of us contribute on a regular basis as we are believers in the old maxim that quality is worth paying for albeit on a voluntary basis, once Pete learnt the rules to self editing adverts that is exactly what he did thumbs

p.s. I hear gumtree is free and shifts a lot of stuff grin2

p.p.s. Thanks Simon once again for keeping the whole thing on track.
