I have tried the search function with no luck, so can someone please tell me where the relay might be located on my 1999 plus8, it is neither of the two on the firewall in front of the toolbox. I am interested because I want to carry a spare as I understand they are susceptible to failure. While I'm here, what are the 2 on the firewall for ?

The fuel pump relay is in the wiring loom behind the dashboard.

IF you are lucky a previous owner will have screwed them to the actual bulkhead and labelled them. If not you may have to search for a bit, but they are there , about 3 of them , one for the immobiliser , one for fuel pump and I think the next is washers/wipers.

It is a simple job to drop the dash , first release the steering column and let it sink to the lowest option. Then undo the 2 screws either side , there may also be one at the top, release these completely, and then with a bit of wriggling the whole dash comes off towards you. You can leave it hanging supported by the steering column , but if wish an extra support on the passenger's side can be easily arranged with a aeroelastic or similar.

IF the relays are still loose in the loom , I would very strongly advise attaching them to the bulkhead and labelling them , it will make replacing one next time SO much easier.

The fuel pump relay is plugged into a blue base, the ECU relay plugs into a black base. You may find that there is a third base without a relay, just an unused part of the LR Disco harness. The fuel pump relay is a normally open relay with a 'common' and two output contacts, one contact pin feeds the pump, the other contact pin provides power to the lambda sensor heaters

I've just got round to dropping the dashboard and can report that there are NO relays behind it, except 2 non original ones on the left associated with the ECU !! It might help if I explain that there is lots of modified wiring behind the dashboard, and the engine has been 'breathed' on by John Eales and has an Omex 710 ECU, just the odd 278 BHP on hand. The car is just wonderful to drive, but where on earth is the relay ???

The relays might have been moved because the Omex installation requires a different wiring setup.

When I fitted my own Omex 600 I installed the relays and the ECU where the old toolbox used to be on my 1999 4/4.

The old relays used to be on the side of the passenger footwell (outside in the engine compartment) just underneath the wiper motor.

Same year car but I don't know if the Plus8 and 4/4 had similar wiring layouts.

My suggestion would be to track down whoever fitted the Omex 710 ECU and ask them. They will know.

Jads, the relay might be incorporated with the new ecu, I changed my +8 to a different after market mapable ecu and all the car functions are in the ecu including fuel pump,ignition,rad fan, etc.
the only external relay is the power feed for the ecu. I realise yours is a different ecu but it might have a similar arrangement .

David the hope would perhaps be that if the fuel pump is directly controlled by the ECU minus external relay, that both the size (dia) of wire and colouring at the fuel pump might then be found exiting the ECU..? Were that the case then that it may be fed direct from the ECU could be correct.....................or not.. laugh2

Unless the Omex 710 is very different in its operation as opposed to just functionality compared to my Omex 600 then there will be external relays.

The ECU does control the fuel pump and radiator fan but via external relays.

I have 3 relays. One for the Main ECU function ie injection etc. One for the fuel pump and one for the rad fan.

That does surprise me David.

ECU's are not normally rated to take the sort of load needed by the fan and fuel pump.

Are you sure your ECU is not fed back into your original Morgan wiring loom relays

Thank you Bob and David, very helpful, and I know from the history file that Interpro in Bristol who fitted the Omex. However, having just spoken to the very knowledgeable boss, he assures me I will still have a fuel pump relay somewhere as all they would have done is pick up the earth from it ?? When hopefully the Covid situation is better, I'll take the car back to them to check the mapping, and maybe they will remember where the relay is. In the mean time, the search continues.
