Stephen, My Plus 4 was exactly the same however it became a little better with a thin smear of waterproof grease, the white sort you use on boats.

My locking fuel cap goes very stiff at times and wont turn , lots of WD40 and unneccesary force has freed it up to date, praying the key doesny snap off.

That was going to be my next try, just a wee dab of lithium white grease smeared around. Being hard to get it out is one thing but having the key pull out no matter what rotational position could ultimately kill it.

Nippymog, that would be a nightmare to break off the key in it😱😱😱

I vote for a little downward pressure as well.

A squirt of ACF-50 or WD-40 into the keyhole works wonders.

If not just run without it.

OK, tried a little downward pressure, nothing. I tried a wee smear of white grease and it helped a bit but still sticky. Tried a bit of WD-40 and nothing but when I switched to PB Blaster which has a thicker oil component it helped take the squeak out.

It all helped but still not great so I investigated the aluminum recess in which the cap resides and found that it was only finished smoothly on the part you can see. The underside of the lips inside the fuel fill neck was very rough so I put some white grease under there and that was the magic solution. I know it will not last long because the rough aluminum still exists so until I feel comfortable enough to burnish the inside of those lip, probably by removing the neck to do it, the cap will sit in a drawer.
