Wow; In the +8 at 58,000 miles on the original Kingpins with no play at all, my 4/4 was close to 70,000 miles when the originals were replaced.

I have the second kingpins and about 87,000 km. They're still top so far. I also lubricate regularly about every 1,500 km to 2,000 km. The first kingpins were completely gone after 27,000 km, so the current set is since 60.000 km on board. The car didn't go straight ahead anymore when the first King Pins were worned out. I have no information about the maintenance of the first 6.000 km because she was a demonstrator. At the same time as the King Pin exchange I changed to 140 pounds of front springs from Mulberry in combination with adjustable avos.

My theory (which could be wrong): With the old standard springs and shocks, I always had a very long travel way. The Mulberry springs plus the Avos calmed the front axle very much. With normal driving the travel distance is much smaller in average. Maybe that helped that the King Pins have been good for so long. By the way, the King Pins have been replaced by the standard materials from MMC. My workshop doesn't like the hard chrome plated King Pins for reasons I do not know. But they could not really explain the reason. They said that I don't like the handling of the hard chromed ones. But I know because hundreds of drivers here in the forum are enthusiastic about the hard chrome plated King Pins and my next ones will be too. I can't imagine that the handling is different than with the OEM King Pins. One could almost assume that the garage prefers shorter change intervals.

Wow that’s a huge mileage with only once per year. I have been greasing mine at least every 1000 miles but it was a demonstrator for just over half on its mileage.

Doing my front end at the moment 12 feb 2021 and I can say that its the best thing Ive done to improve the car, it will now last me. Hard Chromes are much harder wearing and will not rust unlike the Morgan steel version...I had about 6 thou play due to wear only noticable after removing the springs as these can prevent you seeing the movement or play.
Parts alone are my cost
New Chrome kingpins
new bushes reamed

then some nicer add ons........ if you have the cash would be

top and bottom torsion bearings
bottom gaitor for rebound spring
steering damper (remove damper blades)
new track rod ends because they are cheap off the shelf mini ones
avo front and rear shocks from Tim at New Elms these are not as HARD as other Avos available Tim says
Replacement Aluminium calipers and pads to replace the high weight 'princess steel calipers' (gives lower unsprung weight)
Braided hoses

While you are there some chassis paint to tidy up the remaining parts including touching up the cross head..

Lucas red and sticky grease

lots of disposable gloves as its a messy job...
