Whilst swapping out my mickey mouse plastic throttle body for a metal version this morning I noticed the TB position sensor was jabbing into the adjacent cooling hose. Not that easy to spot with the filter hose in place and a possible disaster waiting to happen. ![[Linked Image]](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/b9u50i9vbifcf02/hose1.jpg) Filter removed ![[Linked Image]](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/p78kzn6ttbhnr20/hose2.jpg) TB removed ![[Linked Image]](https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/hno9vnzn1jiszg7/hose3.jpg) Weather too nice to fix today but I think the cooling system will need to be drained and about an inch chopped off the horizontal leg of that the hose to allow more room. So just something to watch out for……

A good spot. That doesn't look good for longevity.

Yes, my 2011 +4 is similar but not quite so deep an impression as Rog. My initial thought was to see if the brackets on the metal pipe section could be adjusted, as they have a slotted base. But, mine were already back as far as they could go, with the bracket up against the edge of the cam cover. Interestingly, someone (servicing technician from the past?) has repositioned them in the past as there was a clear witness mark of where the washer position used to be, which would have made it an even tighter fit. Rather than go cutting bits off the flexible pipe, it’s worth investigating as to whether a “set” put in the brackets would be sufficient! The problem though is that however it is achieved, on mine, there is only about a tenth of an inch before the pipe assembly will foul the corner of the airbox! So check carefully before reaching for the scalpel, Rog. For now, I have squeezed a bit of neoprene in to ease the sharp edges. With a bit of thought at the production stage, this could easily have been avoided.

A good point Doug. An ‘inch’ might be a bit gung-ho but my horizontal portion does look like it was too long to start with. There looks to be too much length squeezes in. I will start by trying to tweak the metalwork as you suggest. I seem to has more clearance on my airbox than you have.
Jon makes a good point about temp. It’s the output from the cylinder head so probably the hottest hose in the engine reaching 100C plus.

I have the same problem and was considering making a shield from a large tin can to fit around the hose secured by clips top and bottom. Anybody think that there are any problems with this solution?

Usually for hoses I just add another layer of rubber. An old hose cut to length and slotted will fit over the hose and grip, without clips, although cable ties could be used.
Chafing is a big issue under the bonnet, so inspect everything closely.

Depending on access Rog, you might get away with cutting the hose shorter around the jubilee clip with a Stanley knife, then remove the clip, slot it along the length, peel it off, and shove the hose further on. You might only lose a few drips of coolant.
