Just a heads up if anyone’s interested, bought this Amsoil 20w50 4T performance oil from Demon Tweeks £7.66 per 946ml
Says suitable for air cooled v twin and good price, Motul 7100 20w50 is getting expensive.

That looks to be good value. It appears to be a similar spec to the Motul 7100 4T. The only worrying thing is that they also do Amsoil V-Twin 20w50, that is almost £10 a Quart more. I assume that has some ZDDP in it? For our large capacity oil system and frequent oil changes is that worth the extra £60 per oil change???

here in the states you will see "motorcycle oil" and V Twin oil with the V twin especially formulated for the big air cooled engines so I would suspect they are different. I am shocked at what you all have to pay. Mobil One V-twin synthetic is about $10 a quart here. The Mobil One "motorcycle oil is about $9.

I agree they are different, can’t find the specs on Zddp but am sure it will be higher in the v twin oil being api Sl and the 4T being api sn
My take is the 4T is a more modern oil similar to Motul 7100 and recon it will be more than up to the job.
A once yearly change at over £100 is cost prohibitive for me!

Asked Amsoil customer services what the difference is between the oils.
Got a speedy reply, 4T is more suited to sports bikes even though it says for hot running air cooled v twins in the blurb so not the bargain I thought!
Going to return it😩

A "more modern" oil with lower ZDDP will be kinder to the exhaust cats, I am told. The Motul 7100 4T does say "meets Harley Davidson specifications" and actually says "special V-Twin 100% synthetic 4 stroke oil" on the back of the container. It has gone up a bit in price recently but Opie Oils usually have some good discount offers. Another good and cheaper option, although mineral based, is Valvoline VR1, some M3W's are using this. In view of the large capacity of the system and frequency of changes, I don't think the oil has a particularly hard life in our engines. The oil temperature rarely exceeds 100c in my car.

Just had a reply from Old Hall Performance who stock Amsoil 4T (and V twin) if it was suitable for the X Wedge,

Quote “Yes, it is suitable for the V-Twin. It is still a premium fully synthetic oil it just doesn’t have the extended drain intervals as the premium V-Twin oil.”

So going to keep it now😁
