i have just got round to fixing the running board strips that have bubbled up due to corrosion of the bolt heads.beneath.
it seems that the original set up included some double sided tape between strip and wing.
is it necessary?
would silicone be better/
Should i just replace the tape?

I know that this is a common fix. i just wondered what the collective thoughts are..

Many thannks

Paul, there was no DS tape under mine when I did them

I replaced all fixings with stainless and trapped plenty of Waxoil between the wing and alloy extrusions during re-assembly

My tip for getting the rubbers back in was a wipe of Waxoil and tease into place with an old plastic credit card

On this subject, what size are the nuts underneath?

I can’t seem to find any sockets that fit

They might be BA if they're small

i managed to move them with a small adjustable spanner. 3 turns and then snip them off with some reinforcement nips.
i agree with Image. They may well be a BA thread.

No tape on mine. I used waxoyl & AFC 50 to treat them. I used a small flat screwdriver to ease the strip back in.
I think Buybritish used allen screw headed bolts rather than the coach bolts.
