I was fiddling around with a cardboard box. I glued a plate of wood and a T-shaped piece of metal on it. It is clamped into one of the rectangular holes of the radio mount. It sits really firm. Since I have no radio I removed the radio blind. Next step: Building a wooden tray and trim it with leather. Clamp it with two plates instead of one. Caveat: It only works for LHD Morgans, because of the reachability of the handbrake. Neat idea. As for only being suitable on left hand drive Morgans, that depends on which side the hand brake lever is - my present car has it on the right hand side of the tunnel However, on my other two where the handbrake was on the left, it was easiest to reach around the back of the gear lever to apply the brake.

Graham, I’ve queried the positioning of the handbrake lever several times as it’s on the left of the gear stick on my +8 but I have seen a number on the right of the gear stick and it’s right hand drive. Was it just preference when ordering the the car from the factory?

Nope. I think you'll find it depended on the engine (and gearbox). 1.8 Zetec are on the right hand side (not been in a Duratec). When I first bought this 4/4 I regularly reached around the back of the gear lever, only to remember the handbrake was closer to me! Both my '97 +4 Rover M16 (IIRC) and '76 4/4 X-flow had handbrake on left of tunnel.

Correct Graham, my 97 +4 and the Roadster are on the left. I can't remember on my 94 4/4. John

4/4 sport - on the left. reckons it was designed by a pervert as the driver`s hand comes into contact with the passenger`s leg when applying the handbrake - she should be so lucky. However if I had a different passenger of a newer model it might be more interesting.

2002 Plus 8 has it to right and just forward of the gearstick. The opposite of your layout.
I remember seeing a Caterham with a removable saddle style leather centre console cover that had a couple of storage areas. There were also a couple of elastic nets on the footwell side for storage.

On the left in my 2003 Black top Zetec 4/4. That’s a neat solution to add some accessible storage.
