A Sauerland round trip and visiting my mother. Morgan in a nice light.

In addition, we see my mother outside in the garden, not in the house. She's 85 years old and we want to protect her.

Great drive around mid-Kent to Penshurst Place to meet up with a couple of Morganeers and a third friend with his Mk3 Spitfire.

During our ‘distancing’ picnic, a couple drove by in this 1952 MGTD - beautifully restored by father of the current owner in the late 80’s & in daily use by him until he passed away in 2007 - his son now takes the car out “as often as he can!”.

I love that MG TD, but what an interesting number plate.
I wonder where that number originated?

Budster ..... I believe Z back in the day was a Northern Ireland plate.

Nowadays it just gets used randomly in the last three of the current system regardless of geography

Thanks. I had forgotten the N Ireland link.

I was told by a classic car dealer that certain plates, especially those with S as the middle letter (eg ASU) often indicates an imported car.
Apparently, if a car came back from South Africa, or the USA it would be issued an S plate by the DVLA for re-registration.
I have a friend with an ex South African MGA registered in that way. It’s a lovely original and virtually rust free car.

The Spitfires are now very rare but the MG TD is a beautiful example. I owned a MkIII Spitfire but would love an MG TD.
The MGOC has an annual London to Brighton run which I joined many times when I had my 1968 Midget . The cars start off by decade to give the older cars a head start.
We always seem to pass the early cars parked at pubs for lunch as we crossed the downs.
The Midget was traded in for my first Mog and for many years Helen Thorne drove it.

Makes my trip to Tesco for the weekly shop seem a bit tame. Though there was a lovely 911 Targa topped Carrera 4 S in the car park.

Budster .... hadn't heard that but pre-new numbering Scottish cars had an S in the last three letters .... my P-reg landy has RST for the last three.
