[ Well I suppose there are more people prepared to get sucked in by a flood of advertising to buy a vacuum cleaner at £600 than there are to buy a utility vehicle at £60,000. I'm not certain! More than you might think...most Aero owners buy a Dyson.... As to the Grenadier, it is positioned as a light truck, not a car. They plan a crew cab pickup and a full pickup, as long as the load-bed will take a 1 tonne Euro pallet it is a commercial vehicle. As such UK business users can claim the VAT back. Most of the "green" restrictions don't apply, including pollution taxes in cities and some other issues. If they get it out at under £50k, including VAT then that is £40k to a business user. Really quite attractive. How many do they plan to sell? Ineos is a B 2 B business, not a retail business and I think that is where they are aiming. If they get army interested, plus other emergency services they will sell enough to make a viable business, world wide.

I do wish them well - BUT you can buy a new Toyota Hilux pick up for £26,000 excluding VAT.
If I was in the market for a genuine working utility vehicle I wouldn't buy from a complete unknown company with an unproven product unless it was such a bargain that you could refuse it.

Ineos planned to build in a new factory in Bridgend. A comment from the Welsh Assembly last week indicated things had gone quiet. I hope it fairs better than a plan to build Connaught cars in my home town a few years ago.

The Bridgend factory seems to be in doubt now. Looks like the situation is complicated by the availability of a French Mercedes plant. Of course, it could just be Ineos creating a bargaining position for more government support. BBC have an article on this here

Ineos is going to renege on the Welsh Government considering the money that has already been pumped into this Manufacturing plant. Groundwork is already underway. If Jim Ratcliffe builds his vehicles in France then good luck with the French unions. Le-Grenadier RIP.

I know that they announced a development and engineering agreement with Magna-Steyr (so they could nick the MB G-class home work? ) but I thought it was still planned to build it in Wales?

Sad to say, but the whole deal seems to have fallen apart today. Hope Aston Martin doesn't go the same way.

The ex Welsh First Minister was interviewed last night. He was questioning about some sort of deal by France to entice Ineos, calling him out for hypocrisy for being a strong Brexiteer yet now going to France to set up, asking about the longer term costs of a purpose built factory for him versus the need to adapt the French factory. Covid has been stated as a major influence on the decision apparently! Really? I also wonder about the public money spent already being recouped. The Ebbw Vale F1 circuit fiasco springs to mind. About £9million ploughed in to a very suspect project with major questions about the people involved. Groundworks at the proposed site in Bridgend are already underway. Who is funding that ? Where are the Brexiteers now? Is this a case of an inability to do deals outside the EU without the EU rules applying?
