Hello everyone!

I downloaded the Protune 2 software, and thought I would easily communicate with the ECU of the 3 Wheeler..... but no.

It doesn't communicate, and I believe it's because I have not the appropriate drivers or no driver at all.

I use a new laptop (only 1 year old) with Windows 10.

Anyone can tell me how to proceed with updating / downloading / installing the drivers for communication with the ECU?

Thanks in advance!

I too have a Windows 10 laptop but ProTune downloaded easily. Maybe a difference between ProTune and ProTune 2?

The YouTube video guide is quite old, so it doesn't cover the Windows 10 scenario.

I have looked at the FTDI chip drivers and downloaded a few, that I hope will help to communicate with the 3 Wheeler ECU.

Marmota,

Try a different usb port on your laptop.

Also, make sure you turn the car on after you connect the cable.

And make sure you install and launch ProTunes as administrator.

Thanks Kankel. Already did all this. Tried again a few minutes ago, and I'm clearly missing the driver for the ECU.

My laptop detects the ECU, but says there is no driver. And I can't find the proper one to install. Apparently the one downloaded with the Protune 2 is not appropriate for Windows 10 (or at least my laptop).

The sad thing is that I have again the check-engine warning light ON. Last week I took the car to the garage and we were amazed: nothing in the historic and nothing live as alarm, but the check-engine ON!
Crazy. After playing a few minutes with the garage software, without knowing how, the check-engine light switched OFF.
This Saturday we went for a superb drive. All OK but at mid day the check-engine was ON again. Apparently the car is running smoothly and no signs of a problem. But the stupid check-engine light still ON.
That's the reason I'm so interested in making this Protune 2 software work: to check with it if there is something really wrong that the garage's software doesn't detect.

Genuine FTDI chipset USB/serial lead? Or a clone.
There's an awful lot of fake/cloned chipsets out there Javier...

Have you got the new type S&S ECU with the different socket? There was something mentioned about it recently and you have a fairly new car. If all else fails try contacting S&S and ask them. Possibly better not to mention that you have a Morgan, just an X-Wedge engine, as they seem to get less co-operative when Morgan is mentioned. This may be something to do with the deal that Morgan seems to do with its suppliers such as Quaife and Spax.

You're right it's a brand new socket as it's a USB C-Type. But the shape of the connection does really make a difference? In the garage they just put an adaptor to the classic USB and it works with their software...

Or maybe you're right and the laptop doesn't match the USB type? I mean my laptop, quite new, has Only C-Type USBs. So I connect direct USB C-type to C-type. But again, I'm not a specialist in informatics but I don't believe the cable the problem...

In fact, my laptp says there is a ECU unit, but that he doesn't have the proper driver. So, it communicates / detects the ECU which to my limited knowledge means the cable is not the issue.

I guess I'll contact S&S tomorrow and see if they can / want help me out…

Keep trying is the only way!

Might be a USB 2.0 vs 3.0 issue (protocol, not physical connector)
