Dave I can only tell you what Dan at KH told me. It does seems odd but he was insistent it was unique having checked with MMC & his local motor factors.

Well it would mean you have to buy the Morgan spare parts from a Morgan program which would benefit the factory in the long term. It would also ensure no dodgy parts come into the pool which is happening a fair bit in the big brand market right now I hear. Asian clones with sub-standard materials being sold as real.

Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Counterfeit parts is an issue for the automotive sector. Not sure it would be an issue for Morgan so much but it is something that motor manufacturers worry about.

IIRC (It was 2007 when I last looked at this as part of a client project) there are documented instances of bearings being passed off as original. There are also cases (usually originating in China or India) where replacement gearboxes with a similar appearance to the original are supplied as being "fit for purpose" but that no attempt is made to pass them off as being from the original manufacturer.

Hi John! So you also preferred the auto?

Due to some missing papers I will not get my car until new week. Ah, the wait is killing me. :-)

Saw what I thought was your car at AW earlier this week.

I was told they had two similar ones though and yours had already been collected. Maybe crossed wires?

I can see why you were enticed wink

Thank you Richard! :-) Mine is more or less exactly the same, but it has the steering wheel on the other side. 😂

Unfortunately I will not get the car this week as the CNC-papers have gotten lost in the mail, and they are required for registration. 😢

On their website they bought Caparo, Is that the brake company?
Liberty history
2015
August - Liberty Steel Newport (formerly MIR Steel) recommenced production after significant restructuring.

November - Liberty purchased the second largest privately owned engineering business in the UK - Caparo Industries Plc.

That is assuming I got the right company.

These are the remnants of the UK steel industry. MIR steel was a small sheet rolling mill with associated furnaces that has had a chequered history being shut and opened more than once in my memory. Caparo is an Indian owned conglomerate. Neither of the companies are equivalent to Brembo or AP. Could be the brake calipers are something imported from India - I dont know.

When I tried to get some replacement pins and spring tensioners for Bumble, they were impossible to find. I contacted Caparo direct and after a couple of e-mails, they were good enough to send me a set, even though they said it was not their normal practice.

I should have taken more care getting the old ones out!

While that was going on I scoped a few spring tensioners on line, and I think it was Triumph 2000 which were closest. The details are buried in my how to posts.

If the CX calipers are imported form India or anywhere else, they will be a standard fit somewhere.

OR - maybe they did commission bespoke calipers.

One of the car shows had some bespoke pads made up by EBC. So all someone has to do is take a set there and hey presto.

I think my Plus8 callipers were for an Austin Princess. That was the general opinion when I was querying. I eventually put Mulfab ones on plus braided hoses. Only pia was the mounting holes were wrongly drilled to a smaller size. I had to open them out to the correct diameter. Mulfab had several in stock that were the same! Hispec maker error! Just a minor glitch. Easier to drill them out than send back.
