There is one positive from being under house arrest.. I can get some jobs done! My MG decided to dismantle its 3rd and 4th Gear Hub whilst it was still in the gearbox and being used! Out with the gear oil came 3 springs and some ball bearings.. The TC gearbox is normally very robust, the TC racers use them, but the gearing does prevent relaxed driving in modern traffic. In top gear at much above 50mph the engine is revving quite a bit. So one way to help this is to fit a 5 speed gearbox to reduce engine revs and so improve its longevity and make for a much more relaxed drive. So this is what i went for.. it took me just one day to strip out, i decided to take it out via the cockpit rather than engine out. If there is a next time I think i'd opt for the latter, its less work. It was also quite a feat as i only have a single garage and cant open up the car doors fully.. much swearing took place! Rebuilding it took me 4 days of work, but it was well worth it..makes a huge difference.. Anyway, i thought some of you may be interested so here's some pics.. first the old box in situ but partly stripped: ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/07/12/CBCEBCDF-C6EA-4AE2-8B98-28CFB9774056.jpg) The 5 speed fitted: ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/07/12/6B1B1F01-805D-497D-BEBB-441C6679433D.md.jpg) And finally all back together! Gearlever still in same place. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/07/12/149B6F39-61B3-443E-B5C3-F2B1CBD6B2E0.md.jpg)

A lovely machine and all credit to you Steve. When I had thoughts of older car ownership pre-Morgan, I ever fancied a 1949 MG TC, it being the same age as me..(-: Ultimately it was the sight and sound of a LM Bentley that captured my imagination, to have me ending up in a +8 Morgan as a substitute, which in truth has worked out wonderfully well in our usage over the years with it`s V8 cruising ability in modern traffic when forced to be amongst modern traffic situations..!

Superb engine bay. Love the thumb screw oil filler cap. What car would have that sophisticated solution nowadays
