On my Ford Kuga if I (or anyone) gets out with the key them a warning buzzer and message pops up in the dash to warn key not found within the car.

Colin,John, your roof top tales caused me to shiver and remember a time when I was to deliver the company wages round various sites that were on the go at the time, and had the wage packets in a large envelope...you guessed it... on the roof while searching my pockets for the car keys.... Got to the first site 1/2 hrs drive from base.... no wages...!!!!!!!!! Drove back to base and they were lying in the road with tyre marks on the envelope... And I was circa 25 yrs old at the time... so what hope for me now..

Isn't here a story somewhere of someone being dropped off at a football match while his wife drives onto deliver a child to university? She has to fill up with petrol and then of course can't restart the car because the fob is in the husband's pocket amongst several thousand spectators.

Wasn't life so much simpler when there was a handy receptacle for the key somewhere in the car.
I'm fed up with the keyless system on Mrs F's Mini. I certainly wouldn't choose another car with this system if there was an equivalent alternative without it.

Why on earth change a proven product like a key? These keyless systems are just something more to go wrong in an already over complicated product.

Several years ago we had a senior manager who was best described as intelligent, absent minded, full of “character”.
We had a company office based in Belfast. On leaving a meeting he was struggling to carry a briefcase, coat, files, keys. He got the briefcase onto the roof to make things easier. He forgot it was there. Off he went down the road, turned at a junction.
His briefcase was returned to him in a sorry state. It fell onto the road by an army checkpoint. Bomb disposal used a shotgun to open/make it safe. He sent a case of Irish whisky and cigars as an apology.

Ditto. Both times when someone has come up to talk about the car as I'm parking it.

Interesting read - seems that ererybody has to learn the briefecase trick the hard way.

We are inthe fifth generation of keyless systems by now - and they are incredibly smarter and better than the first were.
By now there is no chance of tricking yourself.

My first bitter experience was is an early Audi D3 (A8 two generations away)
Filled the car up on the highway petrol station and decided to have break after that.
So parked the car, pressed the lock button on the door and at the end decided to leave my jacket in the car.
You guess?
Dropped the jacket including mobile and car key, closed the door and all messed up.
Car shut and key inside - this will not happen with newer systems;-)

Solution: smash a window and choose a sliding one as it is best for replacement.

The most interesting feeling was smashing a window of a quite new luxury car in a public car park.
A couple of stunning views - but that´s it - no problem to drive it away after....

I love the system by now and use the side morror´s dance to make sure it is shut.

While there is no point in denying the wonders of technology, boy can it frustrate an old git like me.... Having worked with some of this stuff as it emerged to then engulfed and made normal engineering logic it ever seemed I was faced with problems caused by programmers perhaps being to confident in their own logic in terms of the programme than trying to take time to consider human logic in terms of the mistakes they seem likely to make..? Yeah well making ever more complex systems FOOLproof is a big ask... But...?

I have posted this vid before but if you can get over the presenters "style" it seems to provide insight to programming that causes confusion amongst those tasked to resolve issues...? NOT that Morgans would ever suffer any such foible..?
