You're so young Dave, Petrol was 5/- gallon for me so 4 galls for a pound.
I also remember many years later when petrol became £1 a gallon and my guvnor said he could no longer fund filling my car without limit.

I well remember the weigh in at fishing contests and the weights recorded in lbs/ounces/drams. Exciting moments when few fish were caught and the drams came into play. Winnings were usually spent in the pub on the way home.

The milkman delivered orange juice in bottles with a foil top.

It was truly amazing. As were Jubblys.

Our greengrocer had a horse and cart, came round to the gate weekly.

When Black Jacks and Fruit Salad chews were a Farthing each..

The only speed traps in my early motoring career were two round vacuum pipes across the road at a given distance and I remember clearly hitting the first one at sixty and applying full brakes on mode to tear the second pipe, thus invalidating any reading well it was the sport for us growing up and a bit of fun and a challenge

Never have been good at being told what to do I don't think it will change now either..

When flying lessons in a Tiger Moth were £3.00 an hour.

And when you caught a plane on business everyone wore a suit and there was no riff raff getting pissed and singing, it was a pleasant experience in those days, I avoid it like the plague now it's one step away from the Indian train experience these days.

Bloody hell Chaps, talk about looking down memory lane with binoculars !!! I would love to know where Bervie1 grew up to be able to get 7 pints plus F&C for £1. I do remember going round the building sites collecting empty bottles and returning them to the shops to collect the 1d deposit. It supplemented my 1 shilling pocket money.

I remember hours upon hours on the phone and then driving miles to scrabble through a breakers yard trying to get an elusive part to keep a bike or car on the road. You'd often then get charged double what you were quoted as they knew you'd travelled and they had you by the short and curlies, or it wasn't quite a 'immaculate' as they'd described on the phone......

Now, two mouse clicks and it's on the doorstep 24hrs later with full purchase protection
