M&B Highgate Mild was 18p a pint in 1976. Going to Loughborough University that year and finding keg beer at 25p a pint was a bit of a shock.

I used to think I resisted being told what to do because I didn't have a father, but I slowly realised that's how I am.
Had my father hung around, it would have been all out war. My late Father was a brilliant brave Spitfire pilot and much respected who taught hundreds of people the magic post war, after the war somehow he never coped or acclimatised and his life was too chaotic for me to follow. Not having a Mother either from 18 months I decided to do my own thing very early on in life, he could not reason or argue so no future there for me and I never looked back. Many happy hours up in the air with him though - both ways  You never forget the first person to take you up in a Tiger Moth when it's your first flying experience at 3 years old pure magic.

Had this conversation with motoring friends at lunchtime. Passed my test in 1968. As someone earlier said I remember 4 Gallons for a £1. And at my Uni in 1970 a pint of bitter was 1sh 7d. So 7 pints, fish and chips were 6sh that left a couple of bob change. Mid 1971 a can of Tennants lager was 9p at Wm Low supermarket.

The Corona lorry delivering fizzy drinks to your door! It taking most of the day, for my Dad to drive us from Bristol to London. Motorbikes using Castrol R. The AA man warning you if there was a policeman ahead.  Bud 4/4 - Stanley The Rag and Bone man on his horse pulled cart. The Coal Man delivering sacks of coal brought on his horse-drawn cart. The old harvester that used to make oblong bales pulled by the open Massy Ferguson tractor. Home made Dandelion and Burdock with farmers picnic in the fields during harvesting, always seemed to be sunny.

Actually using an atlas or the AA service to plan a route somewhere ?
(Rich it was much easier to yank the pressure strips up using the handbrake as you passed over them, mind you not on a a Morgan Aero ha ha)
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

Bloody hell Chaps, talk about looking down memory lane with binoculars !!! I would love to know where Bervie1 grew up to be able to get 7 pints plus F&C for £1. I do remember going round the building sites collecting empty bottles and returning them to the shops to collect the 1d deposit. It supplemented my 1 shilling pocket money. Heather has just reminded me that in 1963 as a youngster in Thetford when they were building the overspill to cater for the GLC she and her mates used to go round the sites collecting empty Corona bottles to claim the 3d back on each one, her Mum and Dad never found out they would have gone bonkers..

Those AA routes were very good. If I see a traffic monitoring tube I'm going to have to have a go now Alistair . Another one I remember is if you wrote off to Castrol they would send you a lubrication chart for your car, I recall the Singer Chamois one quite clearly.

Let's not forget gents that these prices for fuel are per GALLON not litre.
What about the ESSO plastic man for your keyring, tiger tails for your ariel and best of all the bullet hole transfers for your windows......
Why is there only one monopolies commission??
