Over the winter I fitted a new set of wiper blades from a well know source, we were out for a run recently when the rain started so switched on the wipers as it really started to chuck down we stopped under a tree and I jumped out to put the hood up with the wipers still running, unfortunately the blade on the drivers side fell off and by the time SWMBO could reach over and switch them off the arm had scratched the screen.
On examination of the blade and comparing it with an old one it was obvious that the four lugs were not bent over and I hadn’t realised they should be. If fitting new blades make sure the lugs are bent over to prevent the spring lever being loose and the blade working free.

Good point. They also weaken over time. So need bending back occisionally.

Oof, what a bummer!
Luckily, my car came with the ‘ let’s not work when needed most’ option so I should be safe. Might be worth trying jewellers’ rouge or some such to remove the scratch.

I get intermittent and slow- but two wipes on fast then stop.
Been in three times for a fix.
Used to it now.

Sorry to hear about this Brian. Taking Ewan's point I think that there is some jeweller's rouge in the kit which came with my Dremel. It might be worth checking yours to see if you have some too.

There are a number of glass scratch removal kits on ebay. Mostly comprising of Cerium Oxide Powder and drill adapters with polishing pads. Also available from Frost (frost.co.uk). https://www.frost.co.uk/glass-polishing-kit-windscreen-glass-scratch-glazed-repair/ I have used them a number of times with good success. When I purchased my Plus 8 it had fairly deep gouges in the windscreen which I polished out. Main points are to mask off the bodywork as the abrasive polish can be thrown around from the rotating pad, and take it slowly as the polishing process can heat the glass up.

I’ve been polishing it up with Brasso and also tried the Dremel and the polishing block which came with it which I assume is jewellers rouge, using the Dremel I’ve been wary of localised heat, I think there is some progress but it’s going to take time. The scratch is actually slightly above my eyeline but you never know with a MOT fortunately I’ve got until April.
Mike, thanks for link to Frost kit I think it’ll be worthwhile getting one and giving that a go.
