Looks like an early MG td of early fifties vintage. Can't explain the reg plate.

I think the import theory would be correct. I remember a friend of my father's had a Hillman Minx on Irish plates at the height of the troubles, he had some grief when he went into Aberdeen so was given an M reg plate which was brand new at the time.

I think they also did it with ex forces vehicles when they were 'demobbed'. I had a '62 ex RAF S2 Land rover on a 'P' plate.

Must be old age, I'd forgotten my own experience. Bought my first Morgan from Stapleton in Reece mews, a car that had come back in from Ireland. Bill Wykeham then salesman there said take a seat while I pop down the local post office to tax it and sort the log book out. When he came back , he said got the tax but they insisted that the car had to be registered as a new car. The car changed from 1970 to a1972 in about twenty minutes. No problem to me. I also part exchanged it with them for my next Morgan.

- thanks Bud - not so far Taffy (fingers crossed ). I have heard of factory cars (or perhaps customer cars in for service) being stopped for black/silver plates. I think some of the local Malvern BiB may have spotted the practice..... James
