- very impressed with your 3D work Bonesie. I would love to have a play with some 3D printing ( by coincidence,I did research the Ender 3 machine) but I'm not sure I could cope with the CAD files/Slicer software, etc. How easy is it to say e.g. draw/sketch a gizmo (cover, bracket, etc.) and then convert it to a file that the printer can work with? Do you need to be able to juggle advanced Maths !? How about a ' Bonesie's guide to 3D printing for idiots...." James For a dead easy to use but very powerful 3D CAD system, check out Fusion 360 from Autocad. The hobbyists version is free, there are loads of tutorials on the web, and it's very intuitive and straightforward to get to grips with. Yep, Ive been trying to get to grips with fusion 360 but havent given it much time yet. Drawn a couple of things , nothing too technical :-)

I'm in awe, where will 3D printing end?
They can already print metals now but imagine a home version. Wow !! That would be my dream machine !!

Our 3D printer (a heavily hot-rodded Ultimaker 2) is running almost non stop, from cheap plastic caps to plug radiators for shipping, to carbon fibre filled nylon parts that are end use parts on race cars I make welding jigs and fixtures with it too

I wonder what the difference in print quality is between a cheapy like mine and a more pro set up ?

I find the ability to run the machine fast , I typically print at 90-100mm p/min speeds is the advantage over the cheaper models Also I have an enclosure around mine which minimises warping due to temperature variations
