Yesterday's return from the alps was the first time I've driven my 4/4 sport at sustained high speed (140/150 kph for 6 hours with slower interludes when it was hosing it down) with the hood up. At about half distance when we stopped for petrol at Macon it was fine, but by the time we got home the central part above our heads was as saggy as an old pair of Y fronts. I left the hood up overnight, but still the same today. Is this normal ? Will it go back ? recalling my structures lectures at Uni I suspect that it has stretched outside the Hook's law region. What can I do about it ?

Mine often looks almost as saggy after a high speed run and is never really taut even after a few days. I never realised how much they domed at speed until I was passed by the factory Plus 4 Supersport on the motorway...he must have been doing over the ton and the hood was well inflated!

It will stretch.... but will shrink when it gets cold.

Not much help I know.....

My 4/4 Sport does the same thing at speed but returns to normal within the day, this could be the lower temperature over here compared to yours maybe. Certainly on a winters rainy morning it is tighter to fit than say a wet summer morning when the whole thing is slacker.

Thanks for the reassurance - and to be honest I hardly use it with the hood up. If it's looking like serious rain when it's parked I put on the storm cover, so it's not a big deal. Perhaps the mohair hood is less prone to this problem than the vinyl one.

Right. Our Mohair 2009 factory hood is as tight as a drum. I suppose if the sagging persists then a 'slip over' length of Pipe insulation or the like, fitted along on the frame top/s might help (but more stuff to carry around) idea

Panic over. It appears to have more or less returned to normal.

And it's the same when you drive fast with the tonneau cover half opened, it goes to it's original design a few hours later.

BTW fitting the hood (even the 22 one) in winter is nearly impossible !!!!!

I've found that with the tonneau half-open.

It looks like it's going to pop out of the fasteners as it flaps so much.

I've even found myself holding on to it or put my arm over the top.

It probably won't come loose but just looks like it might.
