Had a scary moment on the motorway heading away from Geneva once, I was just admiring the rear view of a brit Landy when the pallet he had on his roofrack decided to part company with it. It went straight up, then seemed to match my swerves left and right before thankfully for all of us behind landing on the hard shoulder. He was blissfully unaware of it's departure and had seemingly forgotten to tie it down.

We once had a very lucky escape when a snowboard came off the roof of the car alongside us on a busy motorway south of Paris. It cartwheeled down the road, it's steel edges throwing up impressive sparks. Cars swerving to avoid the board caused a multiple vehicle pile up, which had we been a couple of hundred metres further back would have probably included us. There but for the grace of God......

Yep, got stuck behind a brand new Range Rooney on the Eurotunnel which was completely immovable, we had to reverse the Mog the full carriage length to get off

I did advise him that sitting in his car with ignition off for the last half hour would have kicked the immobiliser in & perhaps if he got off his arse, got out & tried a lock / unlock it may help...stupid prat

I recently discovered a quirk in our Disco which won’t start unless the brake pedal is pressed down.

If I sit in the car with the engine off and press the brake pedal a few times I can easily completely exhaust the servo vacuum. When I then try to start the car, it won’t start unless I apply extreme pressure to the brake pedal. Once I had done it once, I twigged on quite quickly but it was a little confusing the first time it happened.

Simple stuff really.

You wouldn't believe some of the stuff we pick up on A roads and motorways. Sets of ladders, step ladders, lots of lorry tyres bicycles and I think the best was 12 full size fence panels scattered over the M25

My son is a Traffic Control Manager on the Freeway Construction Projects here in Colorado, he would agree with you amazing what they find and drivers too, last month he recovered two false legs fairly new apparently.

My son got rear ended on his first driving lesson. Stopped at red traffic lights and (woman) drove into the back of the driving instructor's car.
I narrowly missed a set of the three ladders late one November night on the A1 back in the 1990s.

Some years back while riding my m/cycle through the town I ended up behind a double wheeled dump truck, which had a full building brick lodged between the two tyres on the off-side rear wheel assembly.... I dropped well back and waited till he was stopped at traffic lights, pulled alongside and informed him of the issue... One is left to imagine the possible outcomes, relative to that brick becoming launched at speed...!!!

Luddite ..... hitch-hiking with a mate of mine when I was in my early teens we got a lift from an American guy who had bought a VW microbus and was touring Europe and the UK before shipping it home ..... simlarly, we got behind a gravel truck which had a big cobblestone between the rear tyres .... which promptly flew out and hit the screen right in front of me in the passenger seat .. . Dished the screen in like a big soup plate .... to this day I believe if it hadn't been a US spec with the laminated screen but a UK spec with the (then) ordinary toughened glass screen I wouldn't be here..... I still check every twin wheeler I follow as a reflex !
