LOL. Love the last comment. In fairness there isn't any manufacturer, aside from Jeep with the Wrangler, where water getting into the interior is 'fine'. I once loaned out my Audi A4 to a mate who foolishly left the panoramic sunroof open during a light rain shower. $4000 damage in electronics as the whole console shorted out. The aftermarket sector is strong. If there is a way around it I'm sure it will be sorted if demand is also there.

However, from a manufacturing point of view, I don't think MMC can be faulted for not offering an option that was once there and I seriously doubt a sale will be lost because of it. From the info I have seen, there is a small option uptake on the tonneau cover when it was offered. Personally, I find even a leaky roof to be much more water proof than a tonneau when driving. I've got the 9 stud roof and can't ever recall even a drop of water coming in. My tonneau on the other hand was a vanity purchase and sadly sits in the shed 99% of the time I take the car out. Just my two cents - or perhaps just one cent Fair enough, I'm not criticising your viewpoint, it's the logic (if true) of the MMC position that I find unfathomable: - "Please may I have a tonneau cover on my £90k traditional open sports roadster?" - "I'm afraid not, we don't offer that option any more" - "Oh, that's a pity. Why have you stopped?" - "Because we can't be arsed to make our cars waterproof. You lot will buy them anyway." Tim, a man with balls,

Prior to buying my Morgan............. I never considered the value of a tonneau. I was surprised to find out that it became an essential part of enjoying driving my Morgan.
My Morgan may have been used differently than others, however on a fresh morning drive having the tonneau in place while enjoying limited exposure to the cold, with the heater on and the tonneau helping to provide heat to ones lower half and the hot air escaping upwards perhaps taking a bit of sting out of the breeze... I find it helps extend my enjoyment of the car.
Further to the above, while touring two up and open topped, having the tonneau in place and the excess folded down behind the seats, helps storage of whatever we have behind the seats from picking up dirt and dust let alone becoming wet if a shower of rain catches us out.
Add to that, while touring and with the tonneau fitted as above, I have seen it bulging upwards with the kit that my good lady seems determined to squeeze in, and if one stops for a cup of tea en route, it is a simple matter to zip up the rest of the tonneau to stop prying eyes thinking an easy opportunity exists...?
I can see that the easy up hood that it could be utilised in a jiff, but faffing about to find and fit side-screens that may be under a bag, jacket or whatever... Hmm..?
Without the tonneau my Morgan would be somewhat less able to cope with out personal Morganeering ideals...
Each to their own..

I agree re the issue of water, there have been plenty of threads around water ingress causing brown interiors. Have a peak in the Aero section for one. I don't mean that to say Morgan don't care as I don't think they have bad intentions just to say that it is an issue due to the shapes and tight confines involved. Having said that over the years the seals will need replacement to maintain this and I am certain its an issue in some cases.
If they are not going to do it they should work with some of the specialists out there from the start. One hand helps the other and all that. It would seem a pragmatic approach when models begin or change?
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.

I wonder if they’ll do an old style, nine stud hood again, I know it’s not as popular but I really like mine and much prefer the sleek rear end look. Anybody know what the ratio of easy up to nine stud was at the end of the last traditional car production run? It was very low. Of the last batch of Trad’s to go through the factory earlier this year my Roadster was at the time the only one specced with a 9 stud Trad hood. I remember the factory tour guide saying in February this year that hardly anyone opted for the Trad hood now, which made me doubt my sanity at the time for selecting it. But at least one other went through as Krazy Horse are selling a rather fetching orange Roadster with a trad hood. Shame this option is no longer available. The Trad hood is a faff but I much prefer the look.

It doesn't take long to put up either, particularly the mohair variety. The tonneau cover looks so much better too!!

That's surprising to read and a bit sad too. I suppose it's all about the move from traditional sports car to high-spec/high cost GT-type maybe? It doesn't make it much of a Grand Tourer: if you stop anywhere and park on the street even with the hood up and the windows on your luggage is going to be plainly visible behind the seats.

Whilst liking the appearance of the studded hood I was very fortunate to buy my car with the Simmonds hood and related three-zip tonneau cover. It very neatly encases the furled hood and stays on the car to enclose luggage on the back shelf when necessary. The two additional zips allow for full seat belt operation if this mode is adopted. Like others, I regard it as an essential bit of kit that makes driving a pleasure in the colder and wetter weather when driving solo. The fit seems perfect to me and has weathered many a downpour.

True, but you could cover them with something dark. It's not that easy to see inside a Mog, you've got to bend down and peer in. I do agree, however, that when touring in decent weather a tonneau cover is a much better option. Yep, definitely. I love my Simmonds tonneau cover and hood. The only drawback I've really found is that driving with the tonneau cover ¾ on so it covers the passenger side is so nice that sometimes it's tempting to carry on longer than one should in inclement weather. One year coming back from Scotland the rain steadily got worse and worse, just refusing to clear. After an hour so I had to admit defeat and put the hood up. Needless to say, removing the tonneau and putting the hood up in the chucking rain wasn't the most pleasant experience of my life, neither was spending the next coupe of hundred miles sharing the cabin with a soaking wet tonneau cover. The following year returning from France I got drenched on the M4 and this time didn't bother to stop. By the time I got home both the car and I were awash, but at least with Ambla upholstery I didn't have a problem with wet leather seats staining or the dye running. These days if I've got a long journey to do, especially one involving motorways, and it's going to be a wet one, I tend to put the tonneau cover away and drive with an open cockpit. That way if I do have to put the hood up I at least don't have to deal with a soaking wet tonneau cover.

I think the tour guide said the same about the look?
