Glad you cleared that one up..

What a great idea for an evening to recreate the atmosphere in that way.

Mid summer they hold a one night special screening on Blackpool Sands and this year was to have been Grease but of course it couldn't take place this year, they keep the restaurant and bar open so it's a very popular local event normally and a bit different.

It would appear Drive-in movies are a coming thing what with the virus shennanigans ..... last time I was at a Drive-in was somewhere in California (Santa-Cruz possibly or nearby) 40-ish years ago watching 'The Life of Brian' with members of various conservative local churches noisily picketing outside smile ..... another memorable night at the movies !

Just this last month one has appeared in Plymouth, the last one we went to was in Worcester in RSA in 74 with a grotty little metal soundbox to clip on the window, good fun though. We may have to go down memory lane to Plymouth and hopefully the Amish will be on holiday.

Yep ... window soundbox for me too .... these days apparently you tune your radio into the cinema's dedicated FM channel and get full hi-fi stereo.

Keith, I also went to that Peterhead cinema, the woman with the spooky make up, the painted on eyebrows and the pop up tickets was the same one who did the tray sales half way through the movie. At the time, it was the only place you could buy butterkist popcorn. She was there since the beginning of time and as far as I know, she still is, they just boarded her up in her booth when they converted the dump into a nightclub rofl
Do you also remember the theme played before every movie? II had to search a while to remember it, a great tune long forgotten in my house, Elton John ‘song for a guy’.

I have to feel sorry for the outfit who have just completed a total refurb of our old bingo hall, converting it into a state of the art cinema and completed just as lock down began, drive through would have been a better idea with hindsight.

Ewn .... I'd forgotten it was all run by an old couple .... she sold tickets while he ushered .... then he nipped up to the projection room to run the film and she did the tray sales in the interval. Total time-warp and a dump right enough, but was sad when it went and got replaced with a dodgy 'nightclub' (tho at your age you were probably in there busting your best moves on a Saturday night! smile ) ....... 90 mile round trip to the cinema now.

Hadn't heard of the indie-cinema development .... all that work and something comes completely out of left-field and throws it all in the air .... hope they cling on until the return of some sort of ongoing social life.

I do wonder if cinemas might go the way of high-street shops as this situation accelerates the move to 'online-everything'

I still enjoy the cinema, but it really does seem expensive these days, (another sign of getting older), I’m sure I was about fifty quid the last time all four of us went, I’d would’ve expected Scarlett Johansson to appear live for that amount not long ago.

As for nightclubs..ugh, never really liked them, but a means to end, who knows how they do it nowadays.

Sorry ‘bout the drift, Rich, back to reminiscing, two and four star petrol and a free squirt of two stoke are about as far back as I go!

You are bringing back the forecourt memories now Ewan with those flattish cone shaped containers with the plunger on the top, you're not as young as I thought.

Straight back there and those pint cans of Duckhams green oil with the foil strip to pull to reveal the two holes for pouring.
