I have a plus 4 with power steering. It works fine for me enabling me to sprint the steering wheel round with one hand.

Totally agree with the above. In the first place, you will get used to the heavy steering. Even in my Roadster, most likely with wider tyres than yours I manage without problems, as long as the car is moving ever so little. But turning the wheel at total standstill I admit is heavy, so I don't even try. Secondly, grease is cheap, simple and might be enough. And lastly; steering bearings should help quite a bit, at least at slow speeds. On the road at normal speeds I never miss power steering. Retrofitting one is expensive and invasive, not worth it in my opinion.

Hi Norman

I purchased a new roadster with power steering about a year ago and have since covered approx 8000 miles. This is my third Morgan and the first with power steering. What a transformation, if I ever buy another Morgan first thing on the option list will be power steering.

You have just paid what, 50 - 60 thousand for your car. What’s another couple of thousand for motoring heaven. Do it.

I had to fit a steering damper to my S1 Roadster because the steering was so light with steering bearings.

The steering on my Plys8 is fine when driving but a bit heavier when parking. The 205 width tyres make it heavier than the narrower tyres I had on the 4/4.
A Taffmog member had the power steering upgrade added by a dealer. I don’t know the exact cost but it was a necessity for her.
If/when I need to change the front suspension bits I would add a steering bearing at that time. Maybe go for SSL . The jury is out. I’ll consider that when the time comes as I don’t consider the upgrades as a necessity at the moment.

According to BerryBrook - the kit is £2400, and fitting is £540 so not stupidly expensive.

Are these kits based on the Vauxhall Corsa power steering set up?

My 2011 Plus 4 steering felt fine once on the move. A bit heavy at slow speeds, which got a a bit frustrating when parking sometimes!

All, this is great info ...I will see if the factory can do something (steering bearings, more grease) when I take my Plus 4 in for its first maintenance check in September. If that does not do much, I will probably bite the bullet and pay the extra....thank you so much for all your sharing of thoughts and experiences so far!!

Your build will have the spring seat (steering) bearings as standard, I suspect your new kingpins need some bedding in, also I found my new Mog was very dry in the lube areas as built & the dealer didn't do it at PDI either
