I think it could be great, if only it could display the same view as out the front windscreen, then it wouldn’t matter if you’re looking at it. in fact, they could do the same with phones, you could walk along with your head down and still see where you’re going, at the same time playing the sound around through your earbuds, it would be like you’re really there!

If the driver had engaged his adaptive cruise control (from a stalk) he would have been able to peruse his display all day long in complete safety - as I did in my Model S many times over many miles in all conditions.

His car would not have ‘veered’ out of his lane and into an embankment.

Are you seriously suggesting that having a mechanical switch (stalk) which engages an extremely complex computerised system which in turn allows the person in charge of the vehicle to shift his/her attention from the road to a series of sub menus on a screen, is better than a mechanical switch that directly controls whatever is in the sub menu, is better? An advance? Bearing in mind that everything has to be done in this sub menu way, every action?

If you tap the button on the Tesla3 left hand stork,it will active the the screen wash and the wiper speed variables will be clearly visible on the lower L/H corner of the screen very close to the drivers left hand, not a problem at all, just a lack of familiarisation of the controls.

I agree with this. I like technology and use my iPhone for most of the music/maps etc. Some through voice some before setoff etc. I still prefer to have some features on simple to use solid buttons. Less distraction, easier to remember and less finger wobble involved causing further distraction. Why is my phone better than most of the built in car displays? I use my phone almost constantly and so know exactly where things are even on a smaller display. My iPhone is on a strong mount up and directly adjacent to the wheel. It is closer to my line of site than pretty much all of the car controls. All of the car systems use different layouts and processes so you cannot easily change brands. I get it if you buy a Tesla and learn it and then buy another. If anything this will probably be a reason to build brand loyalty.

I am all for a nice large screen with large buttons in a repeatable layout to improve accuracy but prefer a few key buttons for the regular hits.

I also don't think it was the electronics just people looking for a printbyte?

How much do you want the car do for you?
How much control do you want to keep?
How complex would the algorithms be to cover a wider range of circumstances that automation needed to detect and adjust?
Yes, have menu systems that allow setting up systems but disable them whilst driving.
Intermittent wash/wipe.....how critical is interval control? If you need an extra swipe then use the stalk to do one. That’s what I do when the stalk control steps don’t suit the varying rain level. What works one minute can change the next.
A manual override is a good thing.
Tesla is a tech company moving into transport. I wonder what their thoughts/inbuilt preconceptions are? Tech before other considerations?

Well the tesla has a big boot so you could probably fit a couple without getting into trouble.
