Lived in Twickenham. Saturday morning pictures were a must. A drink came with a straw in a sealed paper cover. Wait for the lights to go down, tear the top off the cover and shoot it by blowing up the straw towards the screen. Simple pleasures. Did anyone else get Jubley pains? A Jubley (?spelling) was a pyramid shaped block of frozen orange juice with a waxed cardboard cover. Snip one corner and suck on it hard. Pains in the back of your chest followed quickly. Jamboree Bags? A paper bag with pictures of boy scouts on it, sweets and treats inside. A sort of Kinder egg in a bag, with no chocolate!!! Politically incorrect sweets called Black Jack's with a picture of a go*ly w*g on the wrapper.
It was more than a mile walk, unaccompanied, to school everyday. If I set off home very slowly, I could jump on the back of the green grocers horse and cart as he returned from market and swing my legs all the way home. His shop was opposite our house and he kept his horse stabled in his backyard just like Steptoe. Different Times. The Black Jack and Fruit Salad chews are still available - no longer a farthing each though Black Jack & Fruit Salad mix.We used to have those paper bags with treats and a plastic toy in, ours were called Lucky Bags and a great favourite at the time. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.tm-img.com/images/2020/08/06/blk.jpg)

Thanks boys, there are some really brilliant recollections coming out on this thread.
Did anybody else make a gun out of 1/2 " copper pipe bent into a long L and sealed at the short end with a hammering and filled with sand, the barrel was around 4" long and packed with gunpowder a jetex fuse inserted in a small hole and a marble up the barrel great fun before we got our hands on our first air guns, if not a little dangerous.

two bolts tied together with string and a large nut with red match shavings. Assembled and thrown vigorously onto a hard surface - loud bang and shrapnel. Oh and dutch arrows too - a 3ft piece of cane with a cut off knitting needle in one end and playing card fins at the other. Launched using a long piece of string with a knot in one end

Sodium Chlorate weedkiller (before they added fire suppressant) mixed with sugar using a jetex fuse, used to pack into 3 in 0ne oil cans, great explosive device. Cigar tubes packed with the the stuff gently squash the end make a small hole and now you have a mini rocket. Surprised I still have any fingers left and not in jail!!

Surprised I still have any fingers left and not in jail!! That was big fun. I still have some marks of burned skin on my right hand from an exploding box but all fingers in place. I too invented several types of Molotov-cocktails by my own and was disappointed when I learned they had been developed many years earlier by others. Imagine doing such things today. Many years in jail as a potential terrorist! Before the Internet people were able to have their own ideas. Now life is copy and paste only.

On a less explosive note, the predicted very hot weather today has made me remember buying ice cream in a local corner shop in the '50s. It came from the large sliding-top cabinet and was wrapped in grease-proof paper. The shop assistant would slice the rectangular two-colour (pink and cream) block with a large carving knife and place the rectangular section between two wafers. Think it was called a Neapolitan. Haven't seen one of those for donkey's years.

Did anyone get a Jeter to work on a model areoplane. We never did. Do you trail bikes with cow horn handle bars. Point the handle bars skyward - two Brocks bangers and you had a mortar.
