Chaps
What’s the view on a Mk2 Roadster, I know it’s the lower power engine but what’s a 2007-9 car like to drive? Any watch points?

Aldermog was one. My experience
1. Heavy clutch: Caroline found it impossible. 2. Slow, ponderous gearbox, compared with the Mazda box in a Plus 4. 3. 1st gear virtually pointless...ratios not well matched. 4. Massive heat soak into the cabin from the engine: I lined out the front of the cabin with Dynamat. 5. All the usual Trad suspension issues. With SSL's multi link rear suspension and front kit I suspect it would be rather nice.
On the up side it is quick and relaxed.

I rejected the Roadster due to the heavy clutch allied to cartilage damage to the left knee, the Plus 8's or Sport have never been a problem and quite light in action.

Thanks chaps that’s helpful. I have been pondering one but as I had a new left knee a few years ago the Clutch may be an issue. We have to do the dance over the trade in as at the moment the dealer offer is not acceptable or realistic. I had a good luck round the car but not driven it which is essential if we are going to go further of course.
Thanks Colin (the road tax also seems crazy compared to a 4/4 😅)

Beware! The last 4/4's cost over £40k and attract the additional £340 on top of the regular annual rate for the first five years after the initial year's VED.

On the up side it is quick and relaxed. Peter Just going through your list, the 4/4 Sport I have 1. The clutch is a delight 2. Mazda gearbox is the best I have driven in a Morgan 3. Ratios are fine 4. No heat soak whatsoever, runs really cool Inside and that’s with an AR manifold and system 5. It already has an SSL front end and Rogers Thingies on the rear I am only thinking of a change as I have lost most of the grip strength in my hands post Chemo And it’s a lift the dot hood and even with John Taylor’s excellent over centre levers it’s a struggle. Think I may well stay with what I have. BR Colin

I have a S2 roadster and the clutch is light
The steering is lighter than my previous 2000 4/4 which I can’t fully understand
What I don’t like is getting it into first gear
I struggle to get it into first from any other gear except 2nd
I believe the problem is from the linkages being a tad long
I e learned to live with it by just putting it into 2nd first and then 1st if I need it
Everything else I love. The engine is fast and responsive - it had a Williams remap before I bought it
Ive had a couple of issues - the MFU box needed to be replaced last year and I’ve just had a misfire problem which has mysteriously corrected itself
We think it was a stuck exhaust valve but whatever it is it’s now fine

Is it viable to get an easy up fitted Colin and stay with what you have ?

I’m sure Sean at Allon White could fit an easy up for you at less than the trade up cost!!!!!

Sadly no to the hood, I asked when I was there before and again this week. Their conversion is well over £4K. I even asked if an easy up front half could be fitted to the existing hood. No go!
Both Shaun and Phil said cheapest way is change the car. Looks like I may well be buying a better coat ;-).
I wasn’t going to say which car it is but there are several Roadsters on sale at AWSC and the clue is I actually prefer the alloy wheels as that’s what I ordered on my +4 4 seater back in 08 and the reduced unsprung weight makes a difference plus so much easier to live with.
