If you are hardwiring, just remember the devices are usually 5V, with the 12V to 5V dropper in the adaptor that plugs into the car.
I remember one forum owner (not here on TM, I think it was a Volvo forum) who happily hard wired his direct to 12V after removing the cigar lighter plug. Result - one very cooked camera! grin2

Unless it was a very old Volvo it’s amazing he didn’t upset the multiplex system. Given the NCSD Andy described to me OG it sound like a ‘dealer’ to be avoided.......

I fitted a dash cam to my BMW 530e and for some reason soon after that the DAB radio stations all disappeared. I took the car to BMW who said Ah! we see sir has fitted a dash cam. That's your problem. You cant use a dash cam unless its one of ours. We can fit one for you for £500. Funnily enough I turned the offer down but since I have removed the dash cam (Nextbase) my radio has stayed tuned????

I know who you mean, they had a fair few Volvo dealers, most of the rest (except the independents) were owned by Pendragon.

Howard, if you're speeding it's probably a contributory factor.

One those S40/V40 IIRC - the ones built in the old DAF car plant. 12V power taken directly from fuse box (possibly interior light circuit - but it was a few years ago. I mainly remember having a smirk at him removing the cigar lighter plug from the dashcam lead!).

Swap the VW for an Octavia they have a USB socket next to the interior mirror. Great idea as Skoda say "Simply Clever".

Sorry buddy, popular misconception, S/V 40 series were built at the Gent plant in Belgium, the DAF cars were built at Born in the Netherlands. The DAF plant was part of the Nedcar set up with sub assemblies coming in from all over where the S/V40’s were in Belgium because of using the common platform with Renault (in fact using the Renault engine and box also).

Gent was antiquated until we put the 850RHD line in there but Nedcar was even worse.

Happy days
