For a few years these induction heaters with heating coils have been available for say £2,000.
Therefore more of a garage trade item to pay back their use.
Recently the 1KW versions that are stand alone with some coils can be got for say £300 to £600.
The 2KW and 3KW versons that have a box with the power supply in and a light weight coil holder are still around £2k.
Has anyone had a shot of any of these units to get seized bolts free.

I always cut old bolts off if they won't undo with a decent breaker bar. I have had to weld bars onto studs to get them out, and once I had to cut one off flush and drill it out. What do these things do that can't be done by conventional means?

In around 20 to 30 seconds they can get the bolt head red hot unlike a torch which takes a lot longer and can damage paintwork and other items near at hand.
It is reported that this is enough to get the bolt turning without damaging the bolt head or it breaking in the hole, therefore needing drilled out!

Tried one when I needed to remove a seized injector on a Peugeot HDI engine.
Absolute waste of time, all it did was to soften the injector so it sheared off when we put a bit of pressure on it. Ended up taking the head off, setting it up on the vertical mill and drilling out what remained of the injector.
Might work where you need to remove a nut from a bolt where the heat will expand the nut away from the thread but not on a bolt which is tapped into a casting.
Smoke spanner for me every time!

In which case for a working mechanic where time is money, these might be an attractive option. For rank amateurs like myself, the 'soak it in PlusGas for a day or two then get the long bar out' approach works for me.

I've got one of those little OxyTurbo sets. Only tend to use it for stubborn bolts, or when I'm bending something, but lasts a fair old while for occasional use.
They're about £150 new, but usually a fair few on the second hand market - I got mine for about £50 with two full bottles.

Yes I have the Mapp Gas thing that does a similar job but it's drawback is that you have a blow torch that can cause damage to other things even when you are careful.
If these induction heaters work, they get away from having a bare flame on a car in the hands of people like me!!!!!!!!!!!!
