Would appreciate some photo's of rear silencer mount, if anyone has this sports exhaust factory fit option. Upper photo shows the standard fit mount to support rear of r/h oval silencer. Note how the U bolt on bobbin supported plate doesn't allow it to clamp the joint to rear pipe in correct position necessitating an extra U clamp just forward





The problem is the AR round section silencer is approx 4 inches shorter so there is no way the existing rear mount will fit without modification, although front mount looks to fit fine. The exit of AR silencer is shown lying below in the approx lengthwise position it will fit, indicating the exit bend starts well forward of existing clamp position. Seemingly simplest answer would be to move the chassis mounted bobbin supporting "L" shaped bracket, as shown in lower photo, just forward of the chassis brace. That would involve removal of seat, seat belt mount and trim though, even then assuming access, not to mention drilling extra hole's in chassis. Other option would be to make up roughly triangular plate (have some 3mm stainless) and extend bobbin mounts to sit at an angle, clamping exit pipe half way around its 90° bend to minimise extension needed and hence twisting force on narrow "L" bracket

Hope the usual Morgan assymetry is not too great for the other side. Any other suggestions appreciated.

Thanks for that Chris. The exit is very well back though so what appears to be the standard mounting can be used. Looks like someone has simply added a 90° pipe to replace the standard rear exit one. The silencer and 90° rear exit are integral with the AR kit, exiting comfortably before the end of running board, and as shown below.



I have to say the slightly oval downward facing diffusers on the exits look great, matching those on the standard rear system. The removable end cap at front of silencer provides the possibility of extra sound absorbing if the AR sytem proves too loud. I have heard the AR rear exit system on a Brookland's Roadster though and that sounds great with a subtle boom.

@JohnV6, yes I spoke with him yesterday when I collected them. It was he who suggested I would have to fabricate an extra plate each side, providing some stainless and suggesting a couple of options. Was just wondering how the factory mounted them.

It seems odd doesn't it that they didn't just use the right length of pipe. But hey ho it is a Morgan.

I have the factory-fitted original AR Sports exhaust on my 2014 3.7 Roadster, which has oval silencers - which I think may be slightly shorter than the normal ones, but with longer exit pipes – so they fitted nicely on the rear mountings with just the one clamp on both sides.

I asked a few Morgan dealers what I would need to change to a side exit system as I was getting exhaust fumes in the car. One agent told me I’d need new silencers and tailpipes at a cost of £870; another quoted me £1600(!); and Librands wanted £700.

Sod that, I thought. There must be a cheaper alternative.

Because the silencer exit pipes are long enough, I was able to have them shortened by a couple of inches to allow angled side exit tail pipes to be fitted, and still use the original chassis mountings.
Total cost: £120. And that included having extension pieces welded to the original, now redundant, rear sections so that I can very easily restore the exhaust to original spec if need be.









I had the work done by JAC Exhausts in Hucknall, Notts. ( www.jacexhausts.co.uk ) The work took him a couple of hours or so while I waited, and I can’t fault the service, quality, or the price!

The exhaust note has lost some of its base tones, but it still sounds quite throaty, and surprisingly, it’s no noisier than it was, and it’s certainly solved the fumes issue.

All of the above may be of no use to you, but if you have a local exhaust fabricator I'd suggest having a word with him to see if he could fabricate something for you, as it must be possible to make either an extension plate, or to weld a bracket to your new tailpipe to fit on the original bracket.

Richard, Krazy Horse have a local pet exhaust fabricator they use, perhaps Dan would let you have their details

Thanks Sid and Jon. Happy to do the work myself though as long as it doesn't involve welding. Sid it looks like your rear exit AR system is entirely different, nice work to turn it into side exit system though Mine are round silencers as per image above with a AR prefix part numbers.

The only part of the factory sports (AR?) exhaust on a Brooklands 3.7 Roadster I saw last week was the slightly oval diffuser tailpipes. They were a good half inch wider than standard. Didn't have chance to see differences underneath but heard the deep throaty sound

I have a couple of ideas to spread the leverage load on those "L" brackets when I make up the extension plates, maybe even fabricated all in one bracket and bobbin support plates bolted to the OE captive double stud plates that fit inside the chassis rails.

Or you could use this on the existing exhausts for a lot less dosh.

Thanks John but the AR pipes already have the 90° bend terminating in neat diffuser tailpipes integral with silencer. The old system came off with relative ease this afternoon and was already offering up an AR pipe on one side as a test fit when the sky turned very black. Slightly uphill for the few yards to garage entrance so bit the bullet and fired up with the cats only! Very loud but maybe not as bad as expected, and just beat the rain

I will probably wait now until the stainless bobbins I have on order from SiFab arrive at end of week.
