Interestingly, I spent quite a few miles in the factory Aeromax with side pipes and was never won over by the sound. As my car has the rear exit sports exhaust, I was able to form a personal opinion based on quite a few miles spent in both cars (7,000 in mine and 1,000 in the factory car).
I felt I was only hearing half the engine and the noise it made wasn't pleasant to my ears (more of an abrasive bark than a rumble). Furthermore, at cruising speed it often felt like it droned (the rear exit can do this at certain RPMs) and under acceleration, it was too intrusive and wasn't a pleasant sound which made you welcome the intrusion. I believe the coupe configuration of the Aeromax exacerbated these issue - I certainly never found it as annoying in Boshlys S2; however, what the 1,000 miles did confirm to me is that the side pipes are not for me.

Its amazing what you can tell with the roof up, windows closed and stereo on I did some track time last week and was sent a piece of video with some cars roaring past. I know what sounded best out of the selected porkers and red cars and that was the aero on side pipes being given some beans. I don't think you appreciate how sweet they sound once your in the car. I think I'll stay a side pipe charlie rather than a rear exit bandit.

Sidepipes for me every time I had my s2 converted to sidepipes by the factory before I had done 500 miles. Every car since is sidepipe squadron eligible, don't think I could go back...

You all know nothing; side pipe squadron is the ONLY way to go! We picked up our Series 1 in 2002 and drove straight to Le Mans to see the De Walt Aero compete. The sound of it as it accelerated past the pits was mega, only the Corvettes came close, and I then decided that I wanted an Aero with side-pipes! My next Aero was not a GTN, but it did have side-pipes and all the Aero's since have had them too. As Boshers rightly said, the ONLY way to go! P.S. What do you call the exhausts on a 3-wheeler (apart from noisy!)?

I really like the idea of side pipes on my areo s1. is it just a case of getting the "turnout" pipes sorted and fabricating a hole each side of the wing, or are there differences in the exhaust prior to the silencers under the cills?

Wonder how they'd look with fishtails? Any Velo owners out there?

Wonder how they'd look with fishtails? Any Velo owners out there? Yes- albeit now 'ex'!! Wouldn't be a Velo without fishtails. In fact, as my late father discovered, if you substituted anything else ( at least on a road-going bike) the power actually went down A normal- pattern silencer won't work on a Velo because the Velo silencer had a separate baffle tube with semi-circular indented slots that fitted on the end of the exhaust pipe and, when the exhaust pipe was inserted into the silencer, this baffle tube went into the "baffle pipe" and played an important part in the back pressure equation I'm not sure if the same isues would be present in the MTW but it would be interesting to know G
