I was chatting to the yard foreman down the road from us at Faircraft-LLoynes and he told me that this year is one of the best they have had due to people not only staying in the UK but pre booking and turning up regardless whereas in previous years, if the weather was a bit off they would forego their deposit. The yard has been empty of boats for weeks now, you can't even get a day boat. I have never seen the marina so empty during the week. If you can find a working yard you may do better on the Southern rivers as they are not so popular.

Living next to Loch Lomond i have noticed this year more rented motorhomes, all the caravan parks and hotels are fully booked, we try not to go in to the village much as parking is a nightmare but good for local traders.

Very much in the dog house, could be up for rehoming

visited Whitby last weekend, although the Council allows 24hr parking, they have banned over night parking ONLY for MH's in the main Car-Parks, i found a spot in a side road next to the Railway line,
we were there 1x night a spent in excess of £100 in local shops and on food. The Council could easliy put a £10 overnight charge on and we would pay it.

Local Resident passing the next morning had a go at me, Wrong thing to do, i explained that a road that passes his house has nothing to do with his house and if he wants parking space buy a house
with a Driveway or Garage Port. MH's are not Travellers or Gypsy's they are people with a mobile unit who want to Travel and see different places instead of been stuck in a Hotel or B&B, if you want
your small community to thrive let us in for a night or two.

Visit France and see how they do it there, they welcome MH's with open arms into their community with dedicated service spot in many villages and Towns, get a grip Britain.

Giles (Pandy) or a French resident may be able to verify this, i visited Paris in 2014 and parked right underneath the Eiffel Tower in the car park FREE, apparently @ July August they allow free parking i believe it is their school
leave time, i await to be corrected.

Visited Whitby last weekend too - small narrow streets packed - found a pop up campsite on a farm next to the brewery by the Abbey.

You are right about a lot of the villages having dedicated areas for camper vans, the French encouraging tourism I believe.
Last year the Eiffel Tower was surrounded by a bomb proof laminated glass screen that's about 8 ft high and 3" thick!
There was airport style security to get into the compound under the tower. Looks awful, but in todays world who knows what nutter will have a go.

Popped up to the north Norfolk coast in the Morgan last week. Very busy on the actual coastal parts but roads very clear slightly inland. The narrow Morgan is the perfect car for such locations!

I found a similar attiutude when sailing in France. Communities put on free entertainkment to attract visitors and had cheap marinas. There was no charge for anchoring - it was seen as a right. And tipyfying this when we arrived late once we tied up overnight at an empty private mooring because we could not see any other in the dark. Next morning the mooring owner turned up during breakfast and insisted on tying up elsewhere until we had finished breakfast and were ready to leave. In the UK we would have got legalistic abuse about using someone else's private property.

For some reason the atmosphere in the UK is a much more stressed and antagonistic " I've got my rights".

It’s a good thing the French love Motor Homes, that’s where they truly belong.

You are talking about France - have you seen them when they go on strike or protest????

Hey Clipper if you are looking at the Broads you could do a lot worse than checking out Herbert Woods -they are a professional operation and we have had a good run with them and they may have some vacancies coming up.
Yes I have experienced the nasty side of UK "this is my road/bit of water" in Cornwall many years ago -when I was a bit more feisty, the person I hasten to add was not a local but from Essex way and I was looking forward to things getting physical when of all people a large Maori came along and told him to bugger off -which he promptly did. My English girlfriend at the time couldnt believe it as it was her car he was threatening.
Yes Howard if you ever sail out here you are welcome to anchor wherever and rest assured that no one will come over with their hand out, though the locals may involve you in drinking more than is wise or healthy, but a quick dip in the morning soon wakes up the soul.
