First image is Gairloch beach, we spent yesterday afternoon there in 21° heat, left from there this morning. Stopped for a couple of hours in Inverewe gardens, second snap. Joined the NTS this year because we couldn't travel abroad and decided to spend the money to help the trust out. Third snap taken between Ullapool and Lochinver.

Weather absolutely gorgeous, makes me wonder why we wasted so many years abroad lying on the beach like a sausage under a grill!!!

Fabulous photographs Gordon. Bearing in mind what others have said about crowded roads and well known scenic spots I wonder whether this is your experience in the far North West? I am thinking about an early autumn trip but would obviously discount it if everywhere was fully booked and traffic was nose to tail.

Rob, the roads are fairly empty, it's fantastic driving. We left booking accommodation till last minute until we seen what the weather was going to be like. Couldn't always get 1st choice accommodation but nothing is very far in Scotland.

We travelled inland to Lairg to get a b&b tonight but it is fantastic, free malt whisky in the room, highly recommended 🍷

Tomorrow we travel back to the North West and a hike to Sandwood bay beach. Forecast is good again.👍

Thanks Gordon - that sounds encouraging and the B&B in Lairg sounds good!
Have a great trip and I hope the weather holds out. We have been drenched down in the south today.

That does look nice. I’m heading up to Pickering for a week on the moors, so if you can recommend any particular routes I’d be very grateful

Duns Mill railway bridge

There are two pill boxes at the bridge, one facing across the bridge and the other facing down the canal.
Presumably this was to counter the threat that the Germans would either come by train or on canal boats

No gates unfortunately but plenty water! If I'm boring anyone with these pictures just tell me 🤣
First image taken after a 4.5 mile walk to Sandwood bay beach, plenty room to socially distance here!!
Image two taken on the A838 looking North over Allt ceann loch. Encountered around a dozen other vehicles on a 40mile stretch of single track. Not part of the NC500 but a very scenic and enjoyable drive in a Morgan.
Image three taken from the window of our BnB in Lairg before we left this morning.
