I would like to give my 4/4 with a 1.8 Duratec a little more grunt at the lower end. Ideally a little quicker throttle response and some better acceleration between 0-50ish, l am aware of a number of options but would welcome advice from some Duratec owners or indeed anyone other Morgan owner.

I don't know if the ECU you have with the Duratec is tuneable but if it is, get it on a dyno and have an experienced tuner look at the mapping.

The ECU on my older Zetec was not easily tuneable so I changed it then had a dyno session. It made a significant improvement in the areas you mentioned.

In general, if you change things like exhaust systems there is a tendency to push the power band slightly higher and the ultimate individual throttle body route (ITB) will significantly improve the throttle response but almost certainly improve the top end power at the expense of low end torque.

Increasing low end torque is actually more difficult than increasing higher end power assuming you don't want to turbocharge it or start playing with head modifications, compression ratios and camshafts.

Hi Chris, I had my 70 anniversary tuned at Williams. It did make a difference but not massively but it did allow you to stay in gear on a hill when before you were changing down so I would say it was worth it. Would also be worth talking to Cain at Wolf.

Pic below of a 1.8 on the left and the 2.0 on the right. You should be able to zoom in and see part num and the differences. If you search ebay with “Mk3 Mondeo throttle body” there are always some for sale. I recently purchased a die cast aluminium 2.0L version here.



Just a point regarding your original post. I don’t know if this will give you more grunt at the lower end but might allow a bit more air though at the top end. If you want a tad more grunt then a re-map perhaps might be the answer.

Cain at Wolf performance does a re-map and it's quick.

Williams Automobiles also have a similar map, if not the same when my IGT intake kit was fitted

You could always fit an Omex throttle body kit. People who have done so are very happy with the results
