Legislation and requirements:

Vehicle manufacturers must fit DRL to new types of passenger car and light goods vehicle (car derived vans) type approved to European vehicle requirements from February 20111 .

Yep simples, it's what the 3.7 Roadsters are wired to do because of the Mustang electrics, just swop the crappy filament bulbs for LED

Also has the advantage of the rear lights being on. Moreover, wingtop Morgan lights are puny attention grabbers compared to modern DLRs, so why not just run with dipped headlights on at all times? Or, if the headlight has an internal sidelight bulb hole, try a Classic Car Daytime Running Lights Conversion Kit from www.bettercarlighting.co.uk/index.php?searchStr=DRL&act=viewCat&Submit=Go Usual disclaimer.

On mine, I swapped out the old headlights for ones with side lights and wired them into the wing mounted sidelight circuit. Have LEDs in front sidelights and stop/tail lights (also number plate lights/gauge lights). Don't run them all the time (I despise DRLs) but will do if I feel visibility is compromised. As a found out on Thursday evening, they have a minimal drain on the battery ( accidentally left them on for 17 hrs overnight and was still able to start her Ok).

Really sorry to hear that John and hope you are OK and hope the damage is easily repaired. At least you had done all you could to be seen.

Before fitting LED sidelights I was driving with dipped beam headlights on and had a driver look straight at me and still pull out in front of me. I reasoned he might have thought I was flashing him out so I feel safer with my bright LED sidelights. Sadly though nothing will protect us against people who just don't look.

DRLs or not. People who just don’t look or are texting. Van man often seen at it. John are the police involved as they may be able to check.

He has owned up so no police. He looked directly at me as well. If I had been on a motorbike I think I would be at best very injured or dead

Interesting that in the UK DRL's are required to dim with headlights, on full stop. This makes perfect sense in the case of oncoming traffic when you would be using dipped headlamps, but is the dimming necessary on full beam without oncoming traffic? I believe some countries adopt this ruling which makes more sense to me.

Also of interest is the DRL dimming kit that CBS sell (or did). Looking at their wiring diagram the trigger feed is from from headlamp low beam, supporting above thoughts.
