Just checked my emails and have found my original response from John Bellenger at Allon White confirming they cannot reuse the rear glass. Will PM you a copy Viper.

Interesting, will have a chat and see what they say.
If it is indeed the case I wonder what the factory will say, as they remade loads of these hoods originally and kept the glass - unless they had to replace it of course but had spare glass available at the time..

If that is the case Nick I wonder if the factory could remake the original gangster hood and put in new glass? I think though I was told the original hood was made by another company who no longer provide them as not viable cost wise.

- perhaps we could get a 'Group Buy' for new S1 hoods*. I reckon we could be up to 4 or 5 already with perhaps more if the price was 'reasonable' ** ...... James * the hoods are probably all slightly different and therefore bespoke ** I mean reasonable by MMC standards of course James

That might well be the case Nick, on my first S1 i t had flaps around the door like a trad which was great unless you were really marching on but on my present car it has the round water channel which looks really good but totally useless with a quarter inch window gap all the way around and half inch in the corner unless you force the rubber seal in to block it. Fortunately we always drive with the roof off and carry a roof cover when parked with the roof up. As an aside I find the Aero guite unpleasant with the roof up the clunk from the transmission is accentuated with all sorts of other little creaks and morgasisms the only plus point our little westie can strech out behind the seats.

I’d be up for whatever it takes but want to keep the glass
I’d like to drive it without worrying about water ingress too much is it does so much damage.
My last S1 was pretty watertight though it didn’t have the glass so assume it was a replacement

Just a thought, could you use the original rear Glass as a template & have some Polycarbonate ones cut ?

I’m not sure why the glass is an issue when it’s surrounded by a rubber seal.
Why can’t that be cleaned up?

Why can’t that be cleaned up? Is it because they stitch through the seal into the mohair seam, if so just replace with a new rubber

From the email I had the pertinent section is as follows
"....We can make new hoods for the Aeros but I’m afraid that the original glass cannot be re-used and replacements are not available. The problem is that the glass was originally prebonded into a section of mohair hooding material which was then used in the construction of the complete hood. It is not possible to cut out the old glass and rebond it into new Mohair – it’s a specialist job requiring specialist equipment and the company (BAS) who did the job originally for Morgan have no interest in remaking these sections of the hood........."
