A little late to share this with everyone, but I wanted to get to the end of my repair journey before getting all chatty about it. However, I have just collected my 2013 3-Wheeler from the Factory, having had a lovely new 2020 chassis fitted by the very professional team there. Having had the car serviced in early July, I continued to search for the cause of constant clonking from the front suspension. Careful investigations revealed a very worn lower ball-joint (the topic was well discussed on here earlier), but in the process I found what looked to be a crack in the top chassis rail, just behind the rear upper wishbone mount. Close inspection showed that it was indeed a developing crack and I sent a picture to MMC asking for advice. They were very quick to respond and said I should not drive the car and that they would be round to collect it as soon as they had a slot in the schedule. It was picked up at the end of July and I collected it on Tuesday. It drives like a new car and the handling is improved in every sense - it tracks straight and true and the clocks and clanks from the front end over bumps and potholes are no more, although quite how much of that was attributable to the cracks or simply the earlier design is unclear. The service from MMC however was excellent and they were happy to do some extra precautionary work at my request whilst the engine was on the bench - clutch, Centa rubbers, cam-belt, rear tyre etc etc. The Customer Service team kept me very well informed and the whole journey was a pleasure - thanks to all of the guys there for turning this round so quickly and professionally. Good to hear it was fixed swiftly/well. Was your previous chassis one of the old type with the bolt-in brace added? This would then be another where the bolt-in brace looks like deferring the cracks rather then fixing - crack may have initiated before the brace is fitted then propagates more slowly...

My car had done 16,000 miles and was a Mk1.5 chassis I guess - originally with the transverse cross-brace between the wishbones, then the triangulated (also bolt-in) ‘recall’ brace dealer fitted. Great service indeed.

To make owners aware, MMC has recently changed their policy with chassis cracks in the upper tube, rear wishbone aft mount area. Until recently they were replacing complete chassis with a post 2014 specification chassis if cracks were found in this area, free of charge. They say that as this issue is applicable to pre-2014 specification cars, these cars will be 10 years or more old and they will no longer do this FOC and will be asking for a customer contribution. They do not seem to have taken mileage into consideration, just age. You will have to enquire with MMC what the cost will be if you are unfortunate enough to find cracks in this area. There are alternative repairs schemes from other M3W engineering providers.
No mention was made of the chassis cracks in the lower forward wishbone mount area, that both pre and post 2014 cars can suffer from. This is repaired using a welded in reinforcing bracket and is a much cheaper and easier repair, so may still be a FOC option as it is applicable to newer cars as well? Again, you will have to ask MMC if you find cracks in this area.
