In the middle of installation ...
The instructions say "DO NOT CUT THROUGH THE THICKER CONVOLUTED HOSE!"
but which one is the thicker of the two?
I've measured with a caliper and they both have the same diameter.
Anyone know which one of the two to cut?

I think these modules are not all 100% identical. The hose that is replaced is the one from the pump, in the middle of the photo, so you can replace the pump. You need to secure both ends with hose clamps, the lower (pump) end is tight. The hose that is left alone and not cut is the one on the right side of your photo, there is no need to disturb it.

I was about to post an indignant reply stating that the instructions DO mention that one of the hoses may not be thicker... but, after checking, I've realised that the link on the MTWC website still takes you to the old version of the instructions. The 'new' instructions do mention this, and many more details gleaned from other owners' experiences so I will see about getting the correct version uploaded ASAP. Please accept my appologies for not checking this earlier.

!!! STOP PRESS !!!
The MTWC website now has the correct link to the updated version of the pump replacement document. It is HERE, just scroll down to 'Fuel Pump Replacement (Ian Brett and Andrew Warren)' dated April 2020.
Many thanks to Steve for doing the clever stuff behind the scenes. cheers

Another commendation for the fuel pump change instructions - just put the Walbro pump in the new/unused spare pump unit that we have had for several years and installed in the car as a preventive measure even though the old pump seemed fine after 8.5 years.

All straightforward expect for one of the quick release fuel pipe fittings that will not shift - this means we cannot for now change the fuel filter until we find a means of undoing the connector - cutting it off and replacing it is not attractive as it is the pipe from the filter to the engine and hard to get at. Decided to leave this problem for another occasion and use the car!

All the other connectors moved easily esp with the recommended Knipex tool (which is a lovely thing!)

[Linked Image]M3W PUMP ROTOR1 by Jeff Inge
Here is a photo of the guts of the original Discovery fuel pump. This pump had not failed yet at 9000 miles, and was replaced with the Walbro. This is just a single stage turbine pump, I am surprised it could deliver at 58psi. I am wondering what the most common mode of failure is. The motor is a simple DC perm magnet motor . I could imagine a small piece of swarf jamming the rotor. I think the Walbro has a better chance of passing particles with the gear arrangement.
