Hi,
Like many on here I have a CTEK battery tender connected to my car when not in use.

I have read the user instructions and it says: to keep the battery in best health press the "Mode button" and select the "Recon" mode once a year.
This charges the battery at 15V for a short while.

My question to you is should I disconnect the battery from the car to do this? Will 15V damage anything else if left connected to car even though the ignition will be switched off?

If nobody on here has done this yet then I might practice on my wifes car first laugh2

Thanks in advance,
Paul

I did it on my wife’s Smart (2017) battery was always a bit lazy as used on short runs .A recon gave it new life with the C TEK.
No detectable problems ,new battery for a stop start car .....£100.00 barking mad .
How ever with the Mog I would disconnect the Battery.

For the short time your Ctek is regulating to 15 volts it shouldn't be necessary to disconnect the battery from the car. It would be a simple precaution to ensure everything is turned off other than say clock and radio memory though. Many car alternators regulate to up to 14.8 volts anyway.

The higher voltage has the beneficial effect of stirring up the electrolyte which may have become stratified due to extended periods on float setting. It can also ward off the ageing process due to sulphation of the plates. More sophisticated chargers drop into this mode automatically every 15 days or so for above reasons.
