From memory, I thought the ones wt cvh engine could be converted by using a ford sierra 5 th speed, without too much fuss. Not sure if same is pos for your crossflow. Belhousing etc needs to match. There must be TMers that did this.

Not really a contender on a 1970's car, you will need adaptor plates, bellhousings and a new gearbox cover fabricated and trimmed, plus a modified speedo drive and then getting the speedo calibrated.
A Type 9 will drop straight in with minimal fuss, and the gearbox cover will still fit!!

Bellhousing matches fine on my crossflow but needs a clutch that fits the crossflow flywheel while accommodating the different spline of the Type 9 box input shaft .... one of the Sierra models works fine .... can't remember which one off hand but Arwyn will have chapter and verse on it.

You need to change the clutch friction disc for a 1.6 Sierra Capri one, part number in tech article sent to OP

That's the boy! ..... did that for mine and all went together a treat .... the previous owner fitted the gearbox ..... but as the lump was sat on the garage floor while I had the bare chassis in the workshop and clutch kits aren't expensive I thought I'd just change it as a precautionary measure .... most of a clutch job is getting to it once it's in the car after all.
Previous owner reckoned it made a great improvement to the driving experience .... am hoping for 'normal box + overdrive' as my ideal once it's all back together .... will be good to have a less 'busy' cruise

Arwyn Never with a 4 speed MORGAN, but with my 2005 PLUS 4 with the 80km/h and former 90 km/h speed limitation in France I found that 5th gear at 2200 rpm is too low and I generaly use the 4th (2500/2900 rpm). Sport cars must have short and close ratios. 3000 rpm is half of the maximum rev and doesn't stress the motor. If you always use low rev your motor will stay lazy with poor accelerations and cannot get its full nominal power.

If you always use low rev your motor will stay lazy with poor accelerations and cannot get its full nominal power. That sounds frustrating. However, as mentioned before, the 5spd box is exactly the same ratios at the 4spd (1 to 4), so will have no change to acceleration, but it gives you an extra gear for cruising. Means you can travel at motorway speeds (110km/h) without revving the tits off the engine.
