Good idea. It probably won't make much difference to people who are on monthly payment plans anyway.

The Idea that the general public, including those who don't own cars, should subsidise any form of private transport is simply not desirable. I have two garages that are part of a condominium and, for the sake of simplicity the electricity costs for the garage area is divided according to the quota of each owner. I have raised the subject that the owners of chargeable vehicles should have metres installed.
I also object to free charging points in public car parks etc. etc. For the life of me I don't see why I should subsedise someone else's travel.

As the early EV adopters are in general pretty well heeled I think it's grossly unfair as the less well off will be hit, this sounds like Tory policy personified to me Why the hell should I subsidise an electric boy/girl, it's a nonsense. More than happy to subsidise someone in need of a meal or two though but come on now..

Mmm, it suddenly makes sense to have my car converted to electric so that I can have the petrol/diesel suckers pay me for the privilege Oops, forgot, it’s all about the environment, stupid. Oops also forgot about the huge environmental cost of elektrisity cars that never enter the debate.
Having received a quote today for a new turbo for wify’s Golf, a replacement car is on the cards. Just what type?

Yes we got Heather's Polo GTI manual just in time before it all goes flappy paddle hybrids and big screens, the mpg figures are surprisingly good too, well over twice that of the Plus 8.

This is already happening. EVs bet Government grants against their purchase price.

When they get no tax equivalent to petrol from electricity the robber barons in Whitehall will naturally penalise petrol heads.

My take is simple.
1. Manufacturers want/need to shift new tin. Selling more ICE means more recycling of 2nd hand. BEV/HEV means new stuff so they are keen to drive it. They have also just invested their next shirt on it so need it to happen after this sad period. 2. Gov has offered a BEV grant to incentivise for Eco/Green and what ever political shine it gets from it. However the exchequer has recently been given the roasting of a lifetime and needs to tighten up. Hence taxes will go up. Stealth taxes are probably preferable as the Gov will get slapped less for them at the next polls. In the UK a high % of cars are on PCP or company provisioned so they will whinge less? So if they cannot pay the BEV benefit out of central coffers then who can they stitch for it? 3. Is this the "horrible!" option they put out first so the one they do want to introduce looks better and we don't all grumble and vote them out?
If they are going to take the Pee then they should also consider layering it like BIK. If it is a HEV/MHEV then it pays a little into the pot. If it is a new V8 that a few more comfortable people can afford/enjoy then it is likely to get a bigger whack as it also pollutes more and is against the overall agenda. They have probably already thought of this and just intend to get the basic tax over the line first and then gradually make it more putative like usual.
We can expect lots of this activity but at the end of the day the various schemes did allow us to avoid a total melt down.
I can see the (joke) results now. All the fun/heavy duty tin with V8's will stop selling (new) as people move to Tesla type performance. People who love big AMG 63 models running around using hybrid powertrains pulled out of aged Prius used by Uber drivers and sound generators attached to the exhausts. The drivers crying gently inside as they try and maintain their cool. Gradually the roads of the UK will become like Cuba in the embargo with aged ICE vehicles becoming more rare and patched up as vendors pull parts support. Ten years later it will be like Mad Max around the Birmingham Bullring - well it truth it's not far off now?
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
