A wee bit of drift but this is the first sensibly priced EV with a 46mile range I have seen so far Ami indeed it is I'm not surprised they are selling well.

It makes god sense if you live in a town or city. I like the look of the Renault twizzy more And it does 50 mph which is just about good enough if you live in a village. https://www.renault.co.uk/electric-vehicles/twizy.htmlIt is double the price however

That Twizzy looks more fun and the extra speed more livable I would think. As you say for a city car the Ami would be ideal, living 2 miles from the shops here it would do for us tbh even though we live in sticksville. I had to smile at the Twizzy guarantee 5 years fair enough but 100,000 miles

That is interesting, I looked into getting a cheap Twizy a few years ago, but the battery leasing option made it a no go for me. I also understtod that they were dropping it. But here it still is and with no battery leasing.

Very true, and if it's a large amount of stuff you need it's much more environmentally friendly to use a delivery service that brings food straight from a distribution centre, like Ocado. Supermarkets have a very high carbon footprint. When you order from Ocado they will show you the 'green' delivery times, when your batch will be combined with others locally to further reduce the impact.

Remind me - how do Internal Combustion Engine cars (ie petrol, LPG, diesel... ) subsidise EV today? 1. Purchase taxes eg the £3K grant for EVs: EVs still pay VAT, so the EV grant is just an extra layer of bureaucracy (they could have just cancelled VAT for EV instead). The EV grant exceeds VAT only once you get above £15K pa (good luck finding a worthwhile EV for £15K). So no subsidy there. 2. Road tax: EVs < £40K don't pay road taxes. But other vehicles pay more into general taxation than gets spent on roads! eg £6.5Bn raised by VED vs £4.8Bn spent on roads? 3. Numbers of EVs today are low: the UK govt says 0.5% are "ULEV". So of the 38.4M licensed vehicles (March 2019), that makes ~192K EVs (2019; 160K in 2018)... so EVs are being subsidised at £125 pa per electric vehicle. Or each non-EV is subsidising the EV's contribution to road maintenance at a rate of 62p pa. So basically nothing. SO may I respectfully suggest petrol car operators and owners subsidise lots of things (especially with fuel taxes), but EV subsidies are pretty low on the list (and at least this something car-related being subsidised rather than the usual car-as-a-victim). All numbers trolled from the interweb and subject to errors etc

Have you read the report in the first post by the OP? Up to £1,500 could be added to the cost of new petrol and diesel cars in order to subsidise electric car purchases, under proposals being considered by the government.
Forcing buyers of more polluting vehicles to pay towards making electric cars cheaper, a so-called “feebate” system, would be one of the most effective ways to encourage a faster move away from fossil fuels, according to a feasibility report commissioned by the Department for Transport (DfT).
