Mine are still fitted, and am about to replace because they've developed knife edge and the shims are worn. I just lube with excess kingpin greas when they're done. Now they're worn excessively I do sense a bit of wobble. Time to give GEE a call.

If you are fitting steering bearings then remove the damper blades, they will have much reduced effect (possibly to the point of none), and add extra preload into the main spring/rebound spring, which should also be avoided
This is exactly the reason why I removed my damper blades - I was advised that they were no longer necessary once bearings were fitted. Not in my case, I'm afraid. It's much better with them on there than not. I think the increased castor angle, wider track, and wider tyres on more modern cars makes them significantly different from the narrow track / steep angle cars in this regard. I don’t understand the intricacies of car suspension and steering set-ups. However, my 4/4 still has the original damper blade set-up. I maintain and lubricate this as advised by the factory. My 4/4 drives and steers predictably, with none of the nodding reported by other drivers. I might just be lucky in the way my 4/4 was originally manufactured. Bud 4/4 - Stanley ps: My 4/4 is 2003 (I’ve owned since 2005) and now has 44k miles on the clock.

Bud the Brooklands Roadster has the steering bearing & power steering.The steering is a lot lighter but otherwise it handles the same as my last 3 Mogs that had damper blades.

Bud the Brooklands Roadster has the steering bearing & power steering.The steering is a lot lighter but otherwise it handles the same as my last 3 Mogs that had damper blades. Brooklands Roadster.  As I said to SBM; I would love a Brooklands, but know that I would end up going backwards into the local foliage. Gorgeous car. Bud 4/4 - Stanley

I had the Suplex front suspension kit fitted and the damper blades removed which resulted in the dreaded St Malvern’s dance on my 1991 4/4 4 seater- solved by refitting the damper blades.

Nelson, also check for play where the blades meet the chassis fitting.The locating tabs can wear and lead to sideways movement of the blades. You can adjust them or fit new tabs if they are badly worn.
Just spotted treesurveyor’s post above so do the checks. It isn’t expensive and keeps the suspension set up correct.

Richard Thornes who were then an MMC dealer serviced my +4. When I collected it they told me there was "something wrong with the wheels but they didn't know what".
Above about 45 mph the shimmy was horrible.
When I got it home & checked it the bolts that held the shims on the damper blades had not been tightened properly. I never went back to them.
Adjusted properly & lubricated (I used copper slip) they work really well.

Looks like I have play in my tie rod ends...2000 plus 4 where to buy from...also may fit some new damper blades at same time
