Which implies its not the Centa? ie the starter torque passes through to the engine... perhaps the clutch has gone?

No the starter torque is not passing through the engine, the Centa is between the engine and starter motor, when the Centa fails the engine is decoupled from everything. The symptoms are that the starter motor is driving through the clutch to the gearbox and rear wheel when in gear and spins only the flywheel and clutch when in neutral. See diagrams in earlier post for the configuration.

What MMC call the 'rubber barrels' can be purchased through a Morgan dealer and are cheap.
Remember that the parts drawings are riddled with errors so I advise you to actually speak to the dealer parts guy to verify that the part number is correct before ordering.

Put aside at least a couple of days to do the job when doing it for the first time.

We fitted a Centa coupling, thanks to Brands Hatch Morgans for quick delivery, and for the engine mounts. We relined the clutch as well, local clutch plate man, just £15!!! We painted the chassis where the powder coating failed and changed the oil. So this Morgan lives on providing BIG smiles. Thankyou chaps for all the great advice. The video was great too. This forum is so good, thankyou. A search facility might be useful, but that's just a minor suggestion for improvement.

So the fault was indeed a full failure of all the Centa rubbers? I'm a little surprised that all 4 should fall apart in one hit to be honest, as it should still move with only a couple in one piece. Anyhoo, glad it's fixed and that was certainly the most cost effective clutch refresh we've had so far I think :-)

Efficient searching of any Forum is a bit of an art, but the Search above (provided you select the Three Wheeler Forum only) does a pretty good job for most I think.

I find I get better search results if I use Google and preface my search with "talkmorgan" or "M3W". Talkmorgan results are always near the top.

I often do that as well. There are sites, e.g. from some dealers, whose search function is sooo bloody stupid.
But TM actually has a useful search since the renovation of the site a few years ago. At least now there are results if you enter e.g. "camshaft" or "head light".

That is indeed not a lot of money. However, I would urge anyone in this position to fit a fully refurbished friction plate because it tends to be the springs that fail, not necessarily the friction material. Broken springs are common and can cause other more serious problems with the clutch slave cylinder.

I suspect that little pieces of black rubber had been dropping out from the bellhousing for some time before final failure. The centa will work surprisingly well (albeit with a bit of slop) until the last rubber roller finally gives up the ghost.

An even better way, albeit with more typing, is to prefix your search with "site:talkmorgan.com", which tells google to search only that site.
