Sunday had a 30 mins flight in a Spitfire at Duxford, Superb, bit like a old classic car. What you forget is that these are old flightier aircraft and are very basic in the cockpit. When we landed the pilot asked me what I thought of the Spitfire, bit like an old MGA, I replied, No Said he, more like a MG TC, beautiful to fly but like a supermarket trolley on the ground.
They handle beautiful in the sky and super sensitive.
Wonderful present from my Son and family. Granddaughter spent a lot of the day filming Spitfires as she is doing WW2 at school. After the flight I though I was being given a video of my experience taken from the cockpit. GD very excited as she is going to hopefully link all together for a film. Bit of a shock to be asked for £95 for a 30 mins film of my head and horizon. But what a day. Barrel rolls being towed behind a 27 litre Merlin engine.
If you have the chance take it, you don't want the film though.

What a fantastic experience!
Did anyone watch the repeat of the documentary about Eric ‘Winkle’ Brown, on TV last night?

I would love to to do it! Nice envy I have now! cheers

I would also love my father to join me, or maybe to fly in the Avro Lancaster with him and my nephew.

Lucky man, it is climbing up my bucket list rapidly. Despite my furry boots roots I would even spring for the video!

If it is any help for your grand-daughters work we have a lot of things from my fathers time in the RAF which started post Normandy and could share a couple of bits if it is helpful.

What a great present David, and like the others on here I am very envious.

Seems very appropriate at this time of year as well, being close to the anniversary of the Battle of Britain with a fair few programmes on the box at the moment about the various aircraft, particularly the Spitfire.

I was driving in the Morgan westward along the A505 a couple of years ago and just as I approached the roundabout to the east of the Duxford main entrance a Spitfire diid a barrel roll right above me and quite low. Sent goosebumps down my back so goodness knows what you must have felt!

In response to Bud's later question, yes I too watched the Eric 'Winkle' Brown documentary last night. What an extraordinary man and an absolutely absorbing story with so many different aspects to it.

Huge envy here. The cost keeps putting me off. The main problem is affording 2 tickets as Mrs F. won't let me have a go unless she goes too.

Hmm, our holiday plans have been severely curtailed this year leading to a big reduction in withdrawals. Man Maths required .......

She's gone for the "let's think about it" option. Wish me luck.
