Great thread, that Braille engineer's micrometer is amazing, must be super rare

This is my Uncles camera, used to fascinate me as a kid in the 60's, Minox spy version, proper James bond stuff

I know this is not an antique yet but it is rare as there are not many around. This is the Type122 Clandestine Transceiver that was issued to me (serial#2479) and I used for a brief period before being replaced by a more powerful modern transceiver. This is a valve based crystal operated transceiver and I have all the parts and complete spare part kit including the valves. It is fully working and if I had another or a 2.5-5MHz, 5-10MHz, 10-20MHz receiver I could start transmitting. Those were the days!!!!

Britmog ..... That's a beauty .... and rare .... they made heaps of the wartime ones but far less of the 'peacetime' models .... what make is it? (Has a slightly Mullard/Ferranti look) ..... during the 80's and early '90s I was a radio tech for the Home Office and we did a fair bit of clandestine equipment for various government agencies .... was the transition time ... in ten years we went from valves to prime-number encryption, SMDs and frequency hopping with the likes of Cougarnet .... steep learning curve for us soldering iron boys

Watched a You Tube video n this working, amazing piece if engineering, I want one 😆

It's a Mullard and built like a tank, it went through quite a bit and never let me down. Although considered "old" when I got it in the early 70s they were so reliable and difficult to trace it was our go too device. I still practice on the morse key which is adjusted to my touch although my speed is not what it used to be. The 80s-90s were indeed a period of rapid transition I quite enjoyed some of the upgrades but found them to be not as reliable, we had to be able to maintain and fix the units in the field which was "interesting". I'm probably just an old fashioned Circus Performer but those acts are the most secure.

As far as field repairs go the Mullard is a crossflow 4/4 .... Cougarnet is a Bugatti Veyron .... rather you than me in the middle of nowhere with a nail-file and a box of matches ...... only plus side is the later gear didn't have 500v ht waiting for unwary fingers!!

You made me laugh remembering that once in a very cold place I made a fire using the 500v ht and some wire from the aerial, life saver

Image: I don't know if this would be of interest I also have the small suitcase that we were issued to carry the Type122 in the Eastern Block. The Type122 is in its black container with to the right my Operational Log Book and Orders, the hand generator and other spares would then go in the case.

Not much chance of that being missed amongst your socks if you were ever challenged to open the case

That's really rare and unusual stuff .... sort of thing that doesn't often escape into the wild. Suitably obselete these days not to trouble the OSA .... same as I don't need to keep my trap shut about the whereabouts and details of the post-nuclear command bunkers .... they're tourist attractions now !! .... the world turns
