The Italian government is tightening up on the borders. Within a few days anyone entering from some countries will have to have a recent certificate that they are Covid free or undergo tests at the border crossings. They are trlaling tests at Malpensa airport that give results in 30 minutes. I suspect that within a short period they will go back to banning cross border movement for non-essential reasons.

At this moment I would suggest that anyone thinking of travelling to Italy should keep a close eye on the situation. Personally I have not and will not cross any borders until I get a vaccine or it is otherwise all over.

Coming to NZ all a put in managed isolation for two weeks with at least three tests done, interestingly most of our new cases (2 or 3 a day) are in this lot and those that have been tested in India and found clear are positive in NZ. We are still running a pretty good tracking system where you scan in everywhere you go, though increasingly the great unwashed egged on by a few academics are going back to their bad old habits.

Looks like Glasgow Uni has had a major outbreak with 124 cases (and rising) and 600 self isolating. A change from Freshers Flu I suppose......

This will not end until the majority of people are comfortable with the remining risk.

In this respect the state of the economy is collateral damage, and won't restore without a majority returning to normality. And since older people have more disposable income, but are less likely to return to normal this is likely to be some time away.

6,000 more infected yesterday, and an upward slope. I think NZ have it "right". Here in the UK we are too complacent in many areas, and allowing global travel so easily without enforced quarantine on return will not address the infection rate.

Lets face it, even a vaccine may not deliver total lasting immunity, without side effects.

Not all old people retire with 'more disposable income'.

Quite a few have to make do with the basic state pension and don't have a couple of Morgans in the garage.

Agreed. I think sometimes it is forgotten that membership of this forum (myself included) comes from a position of priviledge. There are not many in the country that have the financial capability to have a 'toy' worth £15,000+. If I had kids, Morgan ownership would be nothing but a pipe dream.

Edit: I fully realise that the position of priviledge has come from hard work and determinaton. It just that many people are very determined and work hard without great financial reward.
