Hi folks.

As part of my restoration / mod project, I'm going to have to completely rebuild my dash. Now, what everything is going to be wired up to is going to change dramatically, but I'm going to try to keep outward appearances as original as possible.

One of the things I've been trying to sort out is what all the switches and buttons do on the original dash setup, so I can try to mimic their layout and operation on the new dash I'll be building. I've checked out a few recommended sites before and haven't really come across anything useful.

The car is a '66 Plus 4, if that helps narrow it down any. Also, if the dashes originally had lettering on them for the switches or anything else like that, I'd appreciate seeing images of that so I can try to replicate that appearance on the new setup.

Here's what I've got to work with. Along with the central panel, there's that big push-button thing at the top, and a pull-knob kind of thing in the bottom right of the photo which I'm trying to identify.

The big pushy-thing at the top is the horn button, and the pully-thing is the choke cable. Mervyn Rutter supplied me with a full set about 12 years ago when I restored my similar 1964 +4, and as far as I'm aware, still has everything. He also rebuilt my speedometer when it gave up a few years later. Never cheap, but always reliable and excellent service. Good luck; lovely car!

I've been looking through John Worrall's/Liz Turner's book "Original Morgan..The Restorers Guide" There's a good shot of a 1968 Plus 4 dash and John's Super Sport which is almost identical. None of the switches appear to be labelled. I always thought that the top "knob" is in fact a dash light which switches on by pulling out. (I've a similar one bought from Holdens Classic Cars which I was going to fit to my 4/4 Sport.) The lower knob.....choke or starter?

I'm sure there's a Plus 4 owner about to put me right!

Wyndales - Thanks for the heads-up on a potential parts source, those kinds of leads always come in handy! As for the horn button, that'll be kind of a moot point as I'll likely get a new wheel with a horn in the center, but we'll see about that. The choke wouldn't get much use either seeing as the car's getting a transplant from a fuel-injected setup.

As far as the switches and knobs go... I'm kinda guessing the horizontal one is for the turn signals, one of the top ones is for the headlights, and another's for the wipers... though which is which I have no idea.. There's also the white-trimmed push button in the lower left of the panel. I'd have to take a look, but I'm also guessing the two pull knobs at the bottom are for air vents?

Right in the middle below the thick knob and above the control light there appears to be a 12 V socket with two contacts (+ and -) for a handheld spotlight. Landrovers of 1966 had the same socket and there were lamps available with the matching plug. Attention: the +12 V socket is live with the ignition switched off!

three switches= L-R wiper, Accessory light (fog or driving), & instr. lights
two jacks in the middle are accessory power
Green pilot is turn signal indicator
left pilot is main beam indicator, then turn signal switch, then generator ind.
last row: choke, ign. and light
lower left button appears non-standard

choke and light knobs had a white letter "C" & "L" respectively.
Pull thingy at photo bottom right is likely a heater switch

I think I'll do a quick photoshop of the this panel and label everything, just so everyone's in agreement as to what the various items do.
